Kiss My Cupcake

Rate this book
Blaire Calloway has planned every Instagram-worthy moment of her cupcake and cocktails shop launch down to the tiniest detail. What she didn't plan on? Ronan Knight and his old-school sports bar next door opening on the very same day. He may be super swoony, but Blaire hasn't spent years obsessing over buttercream and bourbon to have him ruin her chance at success.

From axe throwing (his place) to frosting contests (hers), Blaire and Ronan are constantly trying to one-up each other in a battle to win new customers. But with every clash, there's also an undeniable chemistry. When an even bigger threat to their business comes to town, they're forced to call a temporary time-out on their own war and work together. And the more time Blaire spends getting to know the real Ronan, the more she wonders if it's possible to have her cupcake and eat it too.

As two neighborhood shop owners battle for business, they prove opposites attract in this outrageously funny romantic comedy from the USA Today bestselling author of Meet Cute.

6S can be the definition of this ultra deliciously yummy, feel-good, joyful novel I just finished:

Soft, swoon, sweet but also sexy, smart, sassy.

Ingredients for creating a delightfully entertaining rom-com:

Adorable MCs: Blaine Calloway makes us sing :”Look at me, I’m Sandra Dee, lousy with virginity, won’t go to bed till I legally wed”: actually she is Rizzo who is wearing Sandy clothes. Maybe I used so much references from Grease, but you have to know a lot about the musical to visualize the style and sweetness of the character. And of course she can sing a hell of You’re the one that I want, cooking the best cupcakes you may desire. She directly addresses to your stomach and sweet tooth personality!

And Ronan Knight: lumberjack meets rock star: tattooed, tall, flirty, smart-ass, tempting. And he’s a Slytherin who knows a lot about HP world ( yes, he already doubled his brownie points!)But don’t get fooled by his caveman appearance, he’s definitely sweetheart behind the emotional walls he built around him.

Hot chemistry-smart banters: there are lots of them.

Likable frenemies theme: Yes, they became rivals: one local bar serves spicy and greasy food with incredible brewery choices( because our hotshot hero can make his own beer. One of the sexiest thing I read because I like booze and I like people who can serve me better ones!) versus a sweet, cozy cupcake stores with delicious sweets and cocktails.

Now there is a YouTube channel competition with a popular host who decides to declare the best bar of the town which means the winner’s sales will boost up with social media’s enormous support and free advertisement!

Both Ronan and Blaire are ready to play dirty to win the contest but a famous chain’s opening across the street alarm them. They may lose their local business so till its opening, they decide to make a truce and merge their powers to fight against the bigger enemy but this means they have to work together, sharing long nights at each other’s houses to plan strategies and ideas about creative events.

Yes, you may guess, spending so much together breaks the ice between them and they start to form more than friendship when all they think about tear each other’s clothes!!! Hot as hell!

Most likable part of the book that I laugh out loud : the holiday dinner at Blaire’s strangely unconventional but also absurdly entertaining, dysfunctional family’s chateau!

This is easy to read, heartwarming, fast pacing book feels your soul with lots of positive energy and makes you smile!

No angst, no unnecessary drama and no illogical cliches can be found in this book which I also appreciated! I’m giving shiny, glitter, unicorn, rhubarb flavor four stars!
If you look for some reading that will make you relaxed, happy, delighted, this is the right choice for you!

Sweet, yet dirty and down right funny of a rom-com that Helena Hunting has brought to the table because Ronan and Blaire are one of a kind...

If you know me already, you will know that my love for Helena's books are immense. I do not think I have stumbled across any of her books in which I have ever said, "wow... this was terrible". And you know why? Because her writing will forever satisfy my book needs and will always make me laugh and have those butterflies in my stomach through every word. Blaire and Ronan are not an exemption. They have proven to be the couple in which are the complete opposite but somehow, somewhere the world has proven them to be together in the most synchronized sort of way as not only rivals, but also partners who first strive to accomplish their best for their businesses but also for their own personal attributes.

When a third rival comes into town and becomes a target in which can affect their own businesses, both Blaire and Ronan need to learn how to work together and not back down. Things get heated and complicated. Especially when Ronan and Blaire learn how to open up to each other, and become one. Together, they learn the truth about each other and love one another in the best and worst of ways.

This is one novel in which had my guts twisting and turning with butterflies because of how much I loved Ronan's broody attitude, and Blaire's bubbly personality mixed that fire in her that makes her such a bad-ass character in the best way described. A ride of a novel that you cannot forget, I am looking forward to see what else Helena has up her sleeves.

this story is sugar and spice and everything nice. and i would kill for a cupcake right about now.

just like a cupcake, this story is super sweet, the characters are lovely, the atmosphere is light, and the story is tasteful.

but sometimes, too much sweetness can be too much of a good thing and my only critique would be there really isnt any sort of opposition, which makes the climax a little dull. yes, cute and fluffy is nice to read about, but i think i tend to prefer my romance to be a little more realistic. if everything is perfect, then the story becomes a little stale.

but this is easy and fun and everything i expected it to be!

Is it possible to have your cupcake and eat it too?

Gosh this book was SO MUCH FUN to listen to. Seriously, I kept a smile on my face almost the entire time. I loved this story of rivals to friends, of enemies to lovers. 2020 has been good for something and that’s Helena Hunting reads. This is the second book of hers I’ve read this year that I’ve absolutely adored.

Blaire Calloway is determined to make her bakery a success. It’s been years in the making and she’s ready to get her cupcake and cocktail shop dream a reality. And then she meets her newest neighbor. Ronan Knight is reopening his sports bar (complete with axe throwing and loud live music) the same day. This is not flying with Blaire.

Blaire is a heroine who is a bit spicy and sweet. I love all of her dresses and plans, and I especially loved how Ronan got under her skin in the best way. When there is a best bar competition and a big name business moves in next door, these two band together to help each other out. They’ll succeed or kill each other in the process of trying.

There isn’t much I love more than good banter in a book and the banter between Blaire and Ronan was excellent. From the start, these two had me chucking with their back and forth and as the book went on it only got better. Not only was the banter great, but their chemistry was fantastic. I loved when they joined forces and became a team. I could see the sparks really start to fly then.

Not only were Blaire and Ronan great, but there were a lot of fun side characters. I especially loved Ronan’s grandpa. I really loved most everything about this one. I only wish we got more of an epilogue/ending.

This is the romantic comedy we all need in our lives right now. It was such a joy to read and I highly recommend picking up the audiobook if you enjoy them. It’s narrated by Teddy Hamilton (who I l0ve) and Holly Warren (who I’m not as familiar with, but also did a fantastic job). If you’re looking for a book that will make you laugh and smile, and bring the feels and the heat, check out Kiss My Cupcake. This was such a win for me!

This is a romance/chick lit. I would like to Thank Forever for granting my wish on Netgalley for this book. I cannot say how much I enjoyed this book. I could not put it down. It was cute, fun, and funny. I loved all the characters, but my favorite character was Blaire. Her family was something else. I am so very glad I read this book. I do have to say that cover really does nothing for this story because Ronan is not a guy that wear a white shirt and he has tattoos. This is the love story of Blair and Ronan, so I am thinking it should be them on the cover. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Forever) or author (Helena Hunting) via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review about how I feel about this book, and I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

A very cute love story with just about the right amount of steam! Blaire has just opened up a cupcake (and booze..how creative is that?) shop and next door Ronan has taken over his Grandfather's pub (and added axe throwing..how cool is that?). They start off on the wrong foot but the tension builds and smoulders until they can no longer resist each other.

I completely enjoyed this "sweet" story. It's my first Helena Hunting book but definitely not my last. I especially loved the scenes of Ronan slowly devouring those exquisite cupcakes! Whew! 🔥 (fanning my face.). I want me some cupcakes now! 🧁

What’re you doing?”
“I want to see what I’m dealing with.”
“You can touch him, he doesn’t bite.”
“Him?” She peeks up, her expression amused. “Does he have a name?”
I scoff. “Of course not.” I call him The Sword of Destiny in my head, though.

I finished this book with a ridiculous craving of cupcakes and a goofy grin on my face. This was just so stinking cute, y'all. SO CUTE. This was opposites attract perfection with a splash of enemies to lovers and all the feels.
You may have started the war, but I’ll be the one taking you down, one sweet treat at a time.”

What happens when a sexy and tatted lumberjack meets a sassy and fiery baker with a penchant for retro fashion and insults. Basically, this was a recipe for amazing from the very first page.

Blaire is intent on making her boozy bakery a success. Combining sweet treats with fun drinks is her thing, much to the dismay of her very kooky but gourmet family. She's intent to prove to them that she can make it on her own and without their financial help. But then she gets a new work neighbor that turns everything upside down. Ronan runs the bar next door and his renovations have been giving Blaire grief. So suffice it to say their first meeting isn't exactly cordial. The chemistry between these two was EVERYTHING. And I seriously mean everything. You can literally see the sparks fly between them each time they go head to head.

At first they're business rivals, each trying to one up the other when they're not trading barbs and insults with a strong undercurrent of sexual tension. Then an unlikely friendship forms. I seriously loved the two of them together. Blaire has the kookiest family that made for some highly entertaining secondary characters. She's also fun and fiery with a temper but a caring heart. I simply adored her. I cannot tell you how much I loved Ronan. He was perfection covered in tattoos. He's sweet and loyal and I loved the relationship he has with his grandfather.

The romance here was a delicious slow burn that I couldn't get enough of. I was eagerly turning the pages just waiting for that moment when Ronan and Blaire finally give into the chemistry between them. And when they finally did? YOWZA. Perfection.

If you're looking for a fun, light-hearted romcom with a delicious sizzle and plenty of feels, look no further!

Cupcakes, HP trivia and a hot bartender. This was one fun combo I didn't know I needed!
Would have given this 5 stars if not for Blair's constant "I'm not like my shallow family, I'm gonna make it on my own" speeches and her inherent dubious nature. Ronan deserved better than that.

Sweet and steamy. Sassy and swoonyy. This was SO FUN! Blaire is Super excited to finally open up her dream cupcake and cocktail business. When there is a loud boom coming from the business nextdoor she is none too pleased. When she goes to investigate she finds out that a bar is opening up next-door and the owner is a HOT lumberjack. BUT Blair is not having it, this guy no matter how hot he is he is not going to ruin her dream. Ronan is startled by how hostile Blaire is especially because she looks so sweet. What follows is a deliciously entertaining Frenemies to lovers story.

I loved every minute of this book! Blair and Ronan were super adorable together. But seriously everything Blaire did was super adorable. The girl bought matching outfits for them when they were doing events together. I have to give it to Ronan he went along with it. Blair also had the most uniquely entertaining family ever loved the Thanksgiving this couple spent with her family. Ronan on the other hand had a great family with a super loving Gramps. This was the perfect heartwarming read. And now I want a cupcake... and a craft beer.

This was a totally cute enemies to lovers romance. Blair owns a cupcake and cocktails shop that is right next door to a new sports bar, owned by Ronan, her unfortunately hot new nemesis. They butt heads at every turn as both try to get their new businesses up and running, and he comes over daily to savor her cupcakes. Loved the cute comedy scenes and this had some interesting surprises once we meet Blair’s family.

*googles where TF to find gourmet cupcakes in a pandemic*

All right, y'all, I'm hungry. Let's chat about this novel.

I usually enjoy Helena Hunting's books because they're a mix of fun escape, a tad improbable, and quite steamy. Kiss My Cupcake, on the other hand, didn't quite give me what I was expecting. While that's not necessarily a bad thing, I just never really connected with this book. There wasn't a long-lasting conflict in here, and everything kept wrapping up so neatly the entire time.

I'm also personally not a fan of Quirky Girl™ protagonists made in the image of Zooey Deschanel, so it took me a while to warm up to Blaire, and even when there was a pinch more depth added, there still wasn't a lot going on.

I'm sad that I could fully embrace this novel like I have Hunting's others, but I'm definitely going to keep reading her work. You win some, you lose some.

Kiss my cupcake was delicious, delightful and enjoyable; even the “foodgasms” were thrilling, especially when the demo of them were by the ever yummy looking Ronan Knight, the owner of the pub next door.
Here’s a quick overview of the plot... Blaire Calloway was determined to succeed on her own, and worked really hard on opening a cupcake and cocktails business, moving it from a food truck to a brick and mortar store. Everything was cruising along fine until Ronan Knight the grandson of the owner of the pub next door decided on a reno and re-opening, his plans and actions putting a damper on Blaire’s hard work. One thing led to another, they hated each other and competed for customers until a common enemy showed up in their neighbourhood.
I really enjoyed all the food references, the food quotes were especially funny, a few of which I won’t mind printing on a tee shirt. I enjoyed the dynamics between Blaire and Ronan and how they went from enemies to lovers. It was a fantastic read. 4.5 stars!

Blaire Calloway is a baker following her dreams. She's finally an independent business owner of a cupcake cocktail cafe in downtown Seattle, and is determined to succeed on her own. Everything is going according to plan until she crosses paths with the owner of the pub next door. Ronan Knight owns an axe throwing sports bar that is set to open the same day as her cupcake shop. They clash from the moment they meet and become rivals. A little not-quite so friendly competition begins as they try to outdo each other in very way. From new customers to social media, nothing is off limits. Blaire won't let anything ruin her chance at having everything she's ever wanted, not even a swoony looking guy. She can admit he's hot if you're into the hipster lumberjack type that love plaid and tattoos. She has to stay focused and not get distracted, but will he prove too much to resist when they are forced to call a temporary truce and work together.

It got to a point where I was reading to finish it, not because this book had my attention in any way.

I was tempted to quit early on but stuck to it because I usually love what Helena Hunting writes. Her contemporaries work for me. Not this one though.

The premise was cute. The execution and writing style was not for me.

I’m glad its over with.

"He's completely self-centered as well as condescending. I hate him already. Forever. Like a kindergartner."

This was such a fun read! It was exactly what I expected: funny and entertaining. The banter between Blaire and Ronan was hilarious, and kept the story entertaining from beginning to end. Is the story clichéd and predicable? Definitely, but it is a rom-com after all.

I can always count on this author to put a smile on my face. If I’m looking for a fun read that will put a smile on my face, I grab a romcom from Helena Hunting.
I wanted a fun read that was easy breezy and she delivered in spades! Kiss My Cupcake is exactly what a expected. A light fun read!

Here’s what I enjoyed:
This opposites attract romance was such a fun read. Blaire and Ronan couldn’t be more different and that leads to lots of great banter and amazing interactions. Their back and forth was thoroughly engaging.

Palpable chemistry. Great secondary characters. Happy vibes. Great feels! That’s pretty much what you’ll get in this romantic comedy. If that’s your jam, grab this one now!

This book is filled with smart banters that definitely make you laugh. .Both Blaire and Ronan are likable. I enjoyed Blaire's dysfunctional family and Ronan's normal family. It is a bit predictable but if you are into food and in the mood for rom-com, it won't be a bad choice.

What disturbed me, the heroine emphasizes she has curves and how her family is always on the keto diet. Can we stop this? Not everyone likes sweet food, maybe some people are happy with dieting. There's nothing wrong with enjoying cupcake or salad if the ones eating is enjoying it. Another thing was a bit odd, how Roman pranks Blaire multiple times. I didn't find it hilarious rather a bit lame. I mean he is a grown-up, why would he prank her with glitters and stuff.

This book is also a bit draggy to me. In the beginning, they just banter and Ronan pranks Blaire. Towards the end, all the family gathering happens and I felt everything happened very quickly. Other than these issues, it's a good romcom. It's light and fun.

“The cupcakes-and-cocktails theme is cute. But that’s about all it is.
I try to keep my groan in this time, but a sound of contentment slips out.
“So you like my screaming orgasms?” she asks.
Which is when I start coughing. I also try to inhale with food in my mouth and choke. And cough some more. Blaire takes a step back since I’m spraying the counter with half-chewed cupcake. It’s a travesty because I want that all in my belly and not on the counter.
“Are you okay?” she asks when I continue to cough for another solid fifteen seconds.
“Yeah.” Cough. “I just”—cough—“didn’t expect that.”
“It’s the name of the cupcake,” she informs me.
“I figured, since you didn’t scream even once.”

So there is Ronan with upper half body fully tattooed and a bar owner inherited from his Grandpa. Next to his bar, Blaire opens her cocktails cake shop and the way they flirt is so cute! Example above. He comes every day for a piece of cupcake she happily sets aside for him, if that isn’t a crush forming, idk what is. Ronan is already hot as it is. Let me go find a cupcake 🧁 to eat.

A dramatic romance which wasn't really funny even though I loved the setup of two competing shops of MCs.

Things I liked:

🧡 The story: As I said, the story had a good plot for a enemies to lovers romance.

Things I wasn't impressed with:

Not enough comedy I didn't laugh at a single scene, so yeah...

Execution of the story was not the best: Especially after the first half, lost interest.

While this was not my favourite from Helena Hunting, it was very enjoyable overall. Blaire and Ronan give us a sweet and feisty enemies-to-lovers romance, but at times it was also quite cringe-y. Blaire was almost unbearable at first and I literally could not even fathom making it to the end of the book. I thought that the tweets in-between... while I understood WHY they were there, could've been a little more creative.

Blaire storms out in one scene and yells "KISS MY CUPCAKE" and thinks it's the most clever thing and I literally just inwardly cringed at it. She was throwing a hissy fit and the rivalry was becoming more immature on her part. When she finally kills him with sweet kindness, that is when I felt her character start to grow and THANK GOD she did. I don't think I would've made it if she didn't. She was also way too dismissive of her family being literally terrible to her and then we just completely brush it all off in the end because they came to visit and ate some cupcakes?! I don't think so. Everything was just way too NEAT in this book. It felt like there was no conflict at all.

I felt like it moved really quick in the overall read but timeline as well, which was a relief as I have a hard time with romances that drag on when they don't need to. However, this felt very superficial. There wasn't a lot of depth in the story and everything just happened so quickly so there wasn't a lot of room for anything to be expanded on.

Also somehow an axe-throwing bar is concerning? I've never been to one but I think that the idea of drinking and then throwing a sharp weapon at something is a disaster waiting to happen. But if that is what these places are like then I can't fault the book and also this point has nothing to do with my rating... I'm just confused.

Above everything, I really wanted a damn cupcake. I wish instead of weird tweets, this book scattered boozy cupcake or cocktail recipes in between chapters. THAT would've been fantastic. Ronan was also probably the only character I liked. He was just being a little asshole in the beginning and I know her dislike towards him was because she didn't have the means to let him put her at a disadvantage when it came to her dream BUT she was immature and overall really needed the growth she later goes through. He stays pretty solid throughout which, I guess, is kind of boring. As I said, the lack of conflict just made this feel incomplete.

Gads, this is harder to review than I expected. I liked it and was engaged throughout. Both protagonists are likeable and their situation is interesting. I have a hard time believing in cupcake stores as a whole (seems overly-specialized to me), but since they exist in the wild, I'm willing to give on that. And Blaire's family is completely unlikely but had interesting aspects so yeah, I'll give on that, too.

Which seems like a lot of overlooking problems and those weren't the only aspects that were a bit far-fetched. The thing is, Blaire and Ronan are engaging and I liked their interactions and I particularly liked that each had to work at understanding the other but made the choice to put in the effort. And that they didn't hold grudges in a misunderstanding.

So I guess what I'm saying is that if you're looking for reasons not to like it, you'll probably find them. Personally, I didn't have time to do so because the pace, story, and characters held my interest. So four stars and I'll say that if you find the blurb interesting, it probably won't disappoint.

A note about Steamy: There are some explicit sex scenes but I forget details. It wasn't above the middle of my steam tolerance but it may have been even lower. Obviously, I was more interested in the non-sex parts of the story, though...

Helena Hunting's books always bring such a smile to my face! This enemies to friends to lovers/forced proximity-ish romance checked all my boxes and was such a fun read. I was laughing from start to finish and I am always amazed by the quirky and endearing characters Helena Hunting introduces readers to.

I loved Blaire and Ronan. Together, they had amazing banter and chemistry and individually, they each were so driven and intelligent. Their back and forth was so hilarious, but I loved how that morphed into a true friendship and partnership. Their families were both a hoot and Blaire's especially had me laughing (and double checking that I read things correctly!). I loved the backstory with Ronan's grandfather, the Knight Cap, and how that played into the story. I also appreciated that there wasn't any unnecessary drama and that the bumps our characters do encounter resolved just as quickly as they appeared. The ending left me smiling and hungry for cupcakes and plaid ;) You don't want to miss this one!

Oh my lord was this one CUTE y’all! If you like baking, enemies to lovers and a slow burn romance this one is a must. It made me feel all the warm and fuzzies and was such a perfect escape for me.

Blaire was downright adorable and quirky to boot, and Ronan was basically her polar opposite. From the moment they meet their banter was hilarious and HH is the queen of creating amazing chemistry between her characters so this one had some heat to it. It does take awhile for their to be any sexy scenes, there’s a lot of buildup before they hookup, but I think the wait was definitely worth it. This was heartfelt and sweet, tons of endearing characters and the most charming and adorable love story I’ve read about in awhile. I adored this sweet couple and was definitely bummed when I finished. Highly recommended by me for romance fans!

***AVAILABLE NOW****

4 CUPCAKE CROWNS

Super cute. Low angst, almost minimal conflict. Gives you all the happy feelings.

Kiss My Cupcake is filled with lovable characters, fun small shop shenanigans, and a romance that is completely sweet and a bit steamy. I really enjoyed these two as people and a couple, although Ronan stole the show for me.

The plot is very low angst, and the conflict while there comes late in the plot and is resolved very quickly. My preference is for a bit more angst and substantial conflict, but it is a light and fun read with some good themes about family and relationships.

If you love low angst books, this is a must read for you. It was sweet and fun and entertaining, as any Helena Hunting novel is.

Blaire met Ronan while trying to open her dream shop a cupcake shop. Ronan met Blaire after she stepped in dog poop. It was love at first site. I think. What a sweet story. I loved the characters. The outfits that Blaire wore. Her crazy family. And Romans wonderful Grandpa
