We find characters we know but it stands well on its own. The straight forward storytelling and realistic technology sets this apart from others in the genre. You should read Prepare if you are interested in more technical details. If Surgical has any fault it would be the dialog. While the characters are well developed otherwise, all seem to speak in the same voice. Dialog isn't easy. Overlook it and you've got a quick, enjoyably good read indeed. I expect Geoffrey Germann will continue to improve his writing mastery and his next release to be an even better treat.

I was particularly impressed by the subtle use of language in dialog to create the feel of a world at once familiar and original. One warning though, if you don't have the stomach for lots of intentional eye glittering, twinkling, and such, you may want to avoid heavy meals before reading. Thank you Amanda Sebring for the care and craft you put into this as well as the very thoughtful inscription and card. I'm very much looking forward to the next in the series!

Though there is adult material the overall tone is what you might expect in a young adult or pre-teen novel. The related short story format is done well, tying up loose ends. One might fear the science fiction background will overshadow this collection but you should be quite safe. I'm looking forward to the next batch.

I do not give up on books easily and am sorry to say we will not be finishing this one. Unfortunately we do not recommend this book despite the great vocabulary it uses. The gratuitous violence, nonsensical story line, and character line up left little for us to enjoy.

Picture a Knight Rider - Batman hybrid plus a couple twists and you've got the basic idea. I was hoping for more than a good guy stops bad guys, bad guys get good guy's girl, good guy rescues girl plot. Perhaps Prepare is the first act and the series will deliver.

Whether things smooth out on their own or your brain starts to accept the vaguely English like language after being beaten to a pulp I cannot say without another read through. There seems to be many paths to Ron's observations about life and the world. I'm glad someone made the journey told and extremely happy it was not me. Much like Ron I prefer to get there my own way, albeit a bit more quiet and sober.

The first is as a very lovingly, painstakingly crafted creative work presented in a novel format. I like reading the glossary first (seriously, I do), doesn't everyone? The second is as a mostly random mess, as a painter might splatter a canvas haphazardly. Unraveling and sorting the strings to prove the first would take more time and effort than this reader wants to spend. Believing the second might not diminish the enjoyment one could derive from this work. In either case I was surprised by the obvious omission of the Museum Of Bad Art, linear world Dedham Neíar Massacusetts as a must stop site.

Do I as reader need reminding frequently on each page that I am or am not reading a dream sequence? Do I need to be told I soon will be? Should the pretentious use of language and languages make me feel superior or insulted? Should preadolescence treatment of subject material put deep truth within my meager reach? Does complete lack of character, setting, and dialog depth transport me to a fanciful world where any thought can materialize en carne?
I looked forward to this book but now feel we were tragically paired.
P.S. I agree with much of the constructive criticism to be found in previously posted reviews, especially the need of an editor. I do hope the author has not reached the pinnacle of her writing career.

Each world, created with so few words, seemed rich enough to fill a novel. Be prepared to not know what is happening for each opening page and see it all make sense by each end. By far one of the most interesting reads I've had in a while.
