The Girl in the Spider's Web (Millennium, #4)

I initially was going to give this 4 stars, but decided 3 more accurately represented my feelings. I found the first third of the book tedious and I almost gave up. Like all newspapers, Millenium is in trouble and purchased by a larger company. Mikael Blomkvist is unhappy and unmotivated. There were a lot of new characters introduced, and a refresher list of previous characters was provided in the beginning. The agencies and groups involved tended to get tangled, and it was difficult to remember who worked for who. Eventually, the story got interesting because Lisbeth Salander became more prominent. A weird web of intrigue involving police, the NSA, Swedish Intelligence, and assorted hackers was revealed along with the motivations of individuals involved. This was an acceptable effort by David Lagercrantz, but I would have liked more Salander right from the beginning.

Salander makes the story-after all her name is in the titles. That's actually why I liked the second in the series the best. Thanks for the review-I was thinking of giving it a pass

You are so right, Perri. It was mostly my curiosity that made me read this.

I'm part way through this book and your review is spot on. Formulaic and hard to follow the characters. Hope the 2nd half is better

I think it is, Lee, just from the mere presence of Lisabeth. I'll keep an eye out for your review to see what you think.

No. Too many comments about having to slog thru most of the book(s) before getting to the great ending(s). I have plenty of other choices that wouldn't involve such an investment in slog. I don't have the patience.
Some say it is a must read, others are loathing it. What should I do? I don't want any consolation after the original books' awesomeness!

Then I have to pass :(

Thanks for the review, I am halfway and am feeling like the characters are tangled. I was wondering he it was just me and if I should start again.

You're welcome, Linda. It isn't you. The characters are a mess. Hang in for a few more pages, though. I felt it got better later in the book.

I have just finished it and thought much the same as you. Enjoyed it but a little slow and not enough Lisbeth.
