A spoof (or fake) email is simply an email that appears to be from a legitimate organization, such as Half Price Books, but isn't. These emails will ask you to log in to your account and update your details using a link they've provided. They may even look authentic. But what may have happened is that you've provided your account details to a thief or scammer. All emails we send to our subscribers are delivered through an authorized third party working on behalf of Half Price Books. Sometimes these email communications include links to offers, such as coupons or giveaways. These links may appear as a URL other than HPB.com or halfpricebooks.com, but will quickly redirect you to the appropriate page on HPB.com or other web domains owned by Half Price Books.

You can check to make sure your connection is secure by looking at the URL line of your browser. When accessing a secure server, the first characters of the site address will change from "http" to "https."
