I didn't have high expectations for this film but I really didn't expect it to be so tame. It had potential but it fell short in almost every way. There is almost no blood in this, which is crazy for a slasher movie. I don't think I've ever seen that before. The only blood shown is in the aftermath, there is none actually shown during any of the kills. The kills are pretty boring with nothing original about them. A lot of the outfits and styles used were not how it was back in 2003. It's almost as if they didn't consult someone who was really in school at that time. This would actually be a great film for introducing someone to the genre if they are not a horror fan. This is about as family friendly as a slasher movie gets. There is no blood/gore, sex, or swearing. Anyone accusing this movie of copying "Totally Killer" is wrong because this movie was filmed a whole year before. However, Totally Killer is a far superior movie and I recommend giving that one a watch.
Sometimes when they make slasher movies that aren't gory they end up good, like "Happy Death Day" or "Countdown" because they have to be creative and build suspense. This isn't one of those times. There are no good suspenseful moments, there are no jump scares.
There is the mystery about the killer and a bit of unique fun with the possible effect saving someone might have. That earns it about a 5.5 rating.
If you were a teen in 2003 then the nostalgia might be enough to make it more enjoyable.
It never gets annoying enough to turn off but it also never gets good enough to make it really worth while.
I know that they rarely use actual teenagers to play high school students but Summer often looked old enough to be playing someone's mom.

I've been waiting for this film for three years. Unfortunately, it's very hard to love. The violence is surprisingly tame, and no murder is shown on screen. (Beware, Terrifier fans!) It's not even PG-13, it's borderline PG. The recent trend of making films as desaturated and bleak as possible has plagued Time Cut as well, which simply makes no sense since the 2000s were famously colorful to the point of tastelessness. The editing is another issue-it's too twitchy to ignore. The killer teleports so much even Jason Voorhees would get uncomfortable, and his mask is some Max Headroom knock-off. Most importantly, the script itself is so increasingly fatigued that the third act can only be described as anticlimactic and unsatisfactory.
The silver lining is that it has a variety of modern Canadian scream queens: Marina Stephenson Kerr (in a clearly reduced to blink-and-you'll-miss-it role; Channel Zero), Sydney Sabiston (All Fun and Games), Megan Best (Elevator Game) and Summer Howell (in what might be described as a cameo; Curse of Chucky). Alas, the lead actors didn't impress me that much. The soundtrack is decent and full of familiar songs of the era. The only truly satisfying thing might be the clothes-they were on-brand for the decade. The costume designer is arguably the only person involved who was actually invested in her job.
All and all, no matter how you look at Time Cut, it's just not enough. It lacks some of the vital skills of a horror film, such as being scary. It's not funny, it's not smart, it's not totally killer, and it's not even trendy. Ugh, as if!

If you're intrigued by movies with time travel, alternate realities, and mind-bending plots, Time Cut might catch your eye. But don't let the allure of sci-fi potential fool you. Unfortunately, this film falls short of its promise, delivering a poorly constructed plot with glaring holes, confusing logic, and shallow character development. Here's a deep dive into why Time Cut ultimately proves to be a frustrating, unenjoyable experience that will likely leave you feeling disappointed and questioning where your time went.
The Plot: A Jumbled Mess
At its core, Time Cut revolves around a group of teenagers who stumble upon a mysterious device that allows them to manipulate time. The premise sounds promising, as there's always a lot of potential in exploring the consequences of altering time and seeing characters face moral dilemmas. However, Time Cut quickly squanders this potential with a storyline that feels like a hastily thrown-together collection of time travel clichés.
The movie jumps around from one timeline to another with little logic or continuity, leaving the viewer lost and disoriented. Instead of gradually building tension or establishing a coherent narrative, Time Cut seems to revel in creating a chaotic plot where characters jump from one timeline to the next with barely any explanation. The result is a storyline that feels hollow and confusing, making it difficult for the audience to stay invested.
Inconsistent Rules of Time Travel
One of the most frustrating aspects of Time Cut is its approach to time travel. Time travel movies often rely on well-established rules to help audiences follow along, whether it's a loop that repeats, a branching timeline, or something entirely new. However, Time Cut doesn't seem to stick to any clear rules, and instead, the rules seem to change from scene to scene, depending on what the plot demands.
Characters seem to affect some events in the past while others remain unaffected. This lack of consistency makes it hard to believe in the world Time Cut tries to build. Instead of clever twists or a satisfying reveal, the film's attempt at a complex time travel story just feels sloppy and lazy, as if the writers didn't care enough to follow their own rules. This inconsistency detracts from any possible suspense or engagement since the audience can't understand the stakes or how events will play out.
Shallow Characters with Little Growth
Another glaring issue with Time Cut is its underdeveloped characters. Time travel stories often benefit from strong, relatable characters whose actions and growth make the audience care about their journey. Unfortunately, Time Cut offers up a cast of stereotypical high school characters who are so thinly written that they're difficult to connect with. The protagonist's motives and struggles feel generic, and the supporting characters lack any meaningful arcs or development.
As the movie progresses, it becomes clear that these characters are merely props to move the story forward, with little regard for making them feel like real people. Their lack of depth and growth renders them unlikable, and because the film spends so little time allowing the audience to care about them, their fates hold little weight. Even the characters' relationships, which could have added emotional stakes to the story, are glossed over or ignored entirely.
Lack of Tension or Emotional Investment
A good time travel film will create tension by showing the consequences of characters' choices and how they affect the world around them. Time Cut, however, fails to create any meaningful tension or emotional engagement. The stakes are unclear, and the movie's constant switching between timelines and realities creates a sense of detachment rather than intrigue. The audience is left with no clear sense of what the characters are fighting for, making it difficult to invest in their journey or care about the outcome.
Additionally, the movie's pacing is erratic, with moments of intense action that abruptly give way to drawn-out, exposition-heavy scenes that try to explain the convoluted plot. This back-and-forth kills any momentum the film manages to build and leaves viewers feeling exhausted rather than engaged.
Uninspired Visuals and Direction
It's not just the storyline and characters that fail to impress; the visuals and direction also leave much to be desired. While time travel films often benefit from creative visuals and well-thought-out cinematography, Time Cut relies heavily on basic CGI effects that lack any real artistry. There's nothing visually interesting or innovative about the way the film presents its time travel concept, making it feel flat and uninspired.
The director seems unsure whether they want to create a suspenseful thriller, a sci-fi adventure, or a teen drama, resulting in a disjointed tone that further muddles the film's identity. Scenes meant to build suspense or drama instead feel forced or cheesy, leaving viewers rolling their eyes rather than sitting on the edge of their seats.
Conclusion: A Waste of Potential and Time
Time Cut could have been an exciting addition to the time travel genre, but instead, it's a frustrating experience that wastes its concept and the audience's time. The film's inconsistent time travel rules, underdeveloped characters, and lackluster visuals make it hard to recommend to anyone, even fans of the genre. While time travel films don't always have to be perfectly logical, they do need to offer coherent, engaging storytelling-something Time Cut fails to deliver.
In the end, Time Cut feels like a half-baked attempt at a sci-fi thriller, and it's hard to shake the feeling that this movie was thrown together without much care or effort. If you're looking for a mind-bending, entertaining time travel movie, look elsewhere.

The first thing that comes in mind when you see the synopsis is Totally Killer from last year. Apparently this was written before and its just a coincidence but its impossible to not make the connection.
Set in the early 2000s instead of the 80s, and trying to save a sister she never knew instead of a mom are the differences but the rest is very close.
I personally left high school right around 2003 but in my opinion the movie missed the mark on the time period it try to portray. There is maybe one line that made me smile (mentioning Twitter, Facebook and then MySpace wich had a few great years in the late 2000s but disapeared very fast) but altough they use some stuff wich were still popular at that time like discman or Buffy posters, i never got much of the 2000s vibe. If anything it feels like they trying to portray the late 90s instead.
When it comes to slasher aspects, the movie has very few kills and it almost seem like an afterthought at times. They could had done so much with the mystery killer but it was pretty easy to figure out. The mask once again look pretty similar to Totally Killer and can't say anything was very memorable with this character.
With all of that said, there was other aspect i liked. The whole idea of Lucy (the main character) life pretty much living in the shadow (and dark cloud) of a sister she never knew with parents that could never move on, but then experiencing how it could had been. Bonding with that sister had its moments too.
Im gonna go with a 6 out of 10 because the movie is easy to watch and didn't bored me. But its a movie that would likely get the "not gonna remember it in t-minus 1 day" by Jeremy Jahns.
Certainly worth a watch as its included with your subscription if you enoy this genre. But will not become a cult classic or anything.

Hmm.. I loved totally killer and when I saw trailer of this first time I was excited even that plot looked exactly the same. But this was so much worse, I'm not surprised anymore why Netflix didn't released for couple years. This was so bad and boring.
Acting is so horrible and the characters are so unlikeable that you don't even care who dies or not. And every kill is offscreen. The main character have the same emotion on her face from the star to finish. Even her was bored acting this.
People don't know that this was made before totally killer, but totally killer was released first and I'm not mad about it, this boring.. so called "horror" film we can forget and just pretend it wasn't never even released
Time WASTE, not Time Cut.

I wanted to like this one. I love time travel movies - especially when it involves scenarios like this story (someone was killed in the past and the protagonist tries to change the situation), as they also often involve a mystery (like this one did as well). Some folks might see a lot of similarities between this film and Totally Killer, which came out last year. They also might feel like this was a ripoff of the other movie, but this was written before Totally Killer, so this seems to just be a matter of timing for both films. Totally Killer wasn't a huge hit for me, so I was hoping that this would end up being a more enjoyable experience, but sadly that wasn't the case. While it got off to an interesting start, the contrivances and ludicrous scenarios (like a couple of teens being able to slip easily through the gates of a NUCLEAR FACILITY WITHOUT GETTING CAUGHT) - as well as the "forbidden love" scenario that played out in here (which felt inserted just for the sake of messaging) - were just too much. And the reveal of the killer (who I had already guessed) was so ridiculous and did not hold up to any level of scrutiny. The main actor also wasn't very convincing (or likable) for me, and I got a bit weary of the constant creased forehead/worried/conflicted/sad/tormented expression she wore pretty much the entire film. On top of that, she constantly contradicted herself with her actions/decision-making. The ending was also rushed and nonsensical, despite its attempt to come up with a "solution" that solved all the problems. It just felt forced and unfortunately did not stick the landing. Don't believe the haters. This movie wasn't nearly so bad as a lot of these reviews would have you think. Sure it was a bit slow and not so slashery as I was expecting, but overall it was a sweet story with a cool take on time travel. I thought the acting was decent and the characters had me intrigued. My only small gripe was the clothing was a little too spot on. Sure we had those styles in 2003, but it's not like everyone wore them. This movie would have you believe everyone were Forever 21 models in 2003.
Some reviewers wondered why the characters had confusion about cell phones. They must've missed the scene in the high school where kids were using their flip phones. That's what cell phones were back then. An iPhone would've definitely been confusing to a teen from 2003. No cell phone looked like that back then.
Anyway, a good little nostalgic romp. Not sure I'd watch it again but it honestly wasn't a bad way to spend my Halloween night.

To say that this was ripped off of prime's 'totally killer' would be the understatement of the year.
The only reason I'm giving this a 3/10 is due to Madison Bailey's (also known for her role in Outerbanks) performance as she genuinely tried to work with what she given and made the film bearable to watch to the end, she is literally the only saving grace of this entire film.
Antonia Gentry (Summer) is in dire need of an acting coach, her performance in this film and in general as an actor is stiff and she literally offers us the audience nothing. To quote the one and only Patti Lupone 'she can't act her way out of a paper bag'. The film's killer was predictable and one could tell who it was from a mile away so it left nothing wonder about. I'm not certain why Netflix opted to rip off 'totally killer' but they failed miserably and offered nothing new to the table.

This movie looks, sounds and feels like a disney channel movie but not even slightly funny. Everything in it, is just bad, the acting, the pacing, the plot, the ending, everything. I knew I was gonna watch something very similar to "totally killer" "freaky" or "happy death day" (all movies that I enjoyed), but I definitely wasn't expecting such a catastrophe.
The main character is dull and boring and her acting is awful, we don't know anything about her relationship with her parents or friends or anyone. Then, she travels to the past and we don't know anything about those characters either. Her relationship with those characters means nothing, the dialogues are unrealistic and extremely not funny or entertaining and everyone lacks common sense. The characters that die, give some of the absolute worst performances I've seen in decades. The only 4 deaths in the entire movie are almost off screen deaths, the "chase" scenes are neither tense nor thrilling, the "big reveal" of the killer isn't surprising and it makes no sense at all, the killer's motives for becoming a killer are thw stupidest I've ever heard and the ending had me in tears, but tears of rage, rage for wasting my free time watching this garbage.
Who green lit this? Who thought it was a good idea to copy every single aspect of a movie that came out a year ago and re do it, but in a poor, sloppy and tv-ish way? This is the worst movie I've seen this year, I can't think about one single good aspect about it, I would never recommend it and I'm just begging the lord, to please extend whatever amount of time I have left on earth, by 90 mins, bc I really need those minutes back.

Im hoping other reviewers mentioned the same thing.
Because this was the biggest rip off if ive ever seen one. Also why was this serious and dramatic? If youre gonna come up with a ridiculous plot and storyline can we atleast make it fun??
This had zero fun. The best part about time machine plots is seeing past and future selves of everyone and we got about zero of that here...Also the slasher was absolutely predictable. I thought to myself i hope i have this wrong. Cause it would be too obvious if it was indeed the person i was thinking. Lo and behold...it was. -_-
I do however want to take a moment and give a huge shout out to the person who handled the 00s jamz. As a millennial that was probably my favourite thing about this entire movie. Every song that was chosen was an absolute banger!
What should have been a short 90mins movie became the longest one ive ever seen. Time i will never get back. (Unfortunately i dont have that Time Machine to go back to when i didnt watch this)
Verdict? Skip this one and watch Totally Killer on Prime. Guaranteed laughs and fun!

This time traveling movie has its moments but its a Science fiction movie and not reality. With that said you can sit back and try to enjoy it. It has some jump scares in it for those preteens and kids watching it but for us adults we are definitely immune to these so dont expect this to scare you. Still do not discourage you to watch this. It is a family fun movie that has a happy ending minus 3 deaths unfortunately RIP. The one thing that I scrutinize is that this Serial killer took advantage of the state he is killing in since no one owns a gun in California. LOL. Suckers... If this Serial Killer was in Texas or any other state this movie would of ended 20 minuets in and would of been a short film and possibly received 10 stars from everyone because of it. But because its a PG horror Flick they went with the rubber knife and Plastic Dollar Store Halloween Mask that probably has the poison lead paint on it that you shouldn't buy. Overal these young adult actors have a bright future ahead of them and we will see them more and more in future acting careers as they get better in there acting craft.

I didn't have much expectations to begin with but I'm a fan of Griffin Gluck's acting and like Antonia Gentry from Ginny and Georgia, so I was intrigued from the start.
I don't know if the writing was purposely making it as corny as possible, but it was super corny.
A lot of things didn't line up- I know it's technically sci-fi but come on!!! At least MAKE it make sense in regards to time travel!
It wasn't awful & has major potential for it to be good- but by the end I found myself in disbelief and questioned why Antonia and Griffin would accept these roles.
As stated in the title, the best thing about it (IMO) is the awesome early 2000s sound track.

First of all, I don't know why the genre of this movie is horror there is no any scary scene in it nor do things happen in a frightening way.
Second, the details in the film are so poor and do not reflect the period in which the action is supposed to take place. Some outfits and hairstyle where soo bad.
The plot had potential but it got wasted and turned to be dumb. The mystery about who is the killer is good and had so much more potential i liked the moment when we found out about how the really killer was. Maybe that is one of good things in the movie.
The ending they chose was cute because i like the fact that they focused on sisterhood.

When I first heard about the premise, I thought I've seen this premise already, like last year's entertaining Totally Killer. But I decided to give this movie benefit of the doubt.
Now in some ways it's similar to Totally Killer, but in other ways it's different. The characters start out kind of weak but get a little better has the movie goes on. The killer in the movie has a fierce look to him. There are some good surprises along the way, like the killer's identity, and the way it tries to be different from other time traveling movies that your used to seeing. It's not great, but entertaining for the most part, nothing more.

Lucy's life is shaped and mapped out by the tragic death of her sister Summer, who was a victim of a serial killer back in 2003. Out with her parents one day, Lucy is drawn to a strange light, a light that houses a time machine.
The synopsis and introduction made me think I was watching a straight up slasher movie, and there are flashes, but I'd put it more in the teen action mystery bracket, it lacks any credible scares.
It's actually better in reality than the story would suggest, and it has some quite interesting concepts. Seeing Lucy question her parents, away from their grief was a satisfying moment, and I liked the way 2003 was recreated (a much nicer time!)
The 'Ken' face mask was pretty decent I thought, it looked rather good. I wish we'd gotten to learn a bit more about him.
Nicely acted and well produced, I think it's better than some of the reviews would suggest.
6/10.

Hallmark horror movie at its absolute finest. I really wish I could go back in time and get that 1.5 hours of my life back. So many movies today have this feel to them, cheesy, generic, zero depth, unrelatable characters. I find it so sad what TV and movies has become in the last 15 years and it just keeps getting worse. The 1980s and 1990s were pure gem decades when it came to on screen entertainment. Now most of it feels like lifetime or the hallmark channel movies. And don't get me started on the remakes of all the movies I had growing up, so lazy. Do yourself a favor and skip this train wreck it's not worth your time. Go watch an original from movie like beetle juice or ghostbusters.

It's 2003 and a serial killer is on his rampage, taking the lives of Summer and her friends. 20 years later, the town has moved on, the killer isn't caught and Summer's sister Lucy is trying hard to fill in her shoes but the overprotective parents are making it harder for her. Lucy randomly finds a time machine which transports her back to 2003, few days before Summer gets killed. Now, Lucy must decide whether to not change the future to ensure the continuity of her existence or save her sister and stop the killer.
The problem with Time Cut is the writing is just not ambitious. Without comparing it with Totally Killer or other similar films, the writing here is outright lazy. There are zero tense moments and the actors are barely given anything to work on. The sisters bonding lacks any impact, the serial killer's reveal is lame and the reason for the killings was laughable. I lost count of the number of times I kept yawning throughout. Time Cut is a straight up bad film and I really have nothing worth to talk positively about it. I wish the film had offered something in the form of slapstick comedy atleast and it failed it every department.
