Plotted on 70's Naxalite era of Calcutta. Casting was too heavy to handle this pitty thriller. Sabyasachi is fabulous as always in a Naxalite role. But story telling could be more mature.Created so much of suspense in the 1st half which have enlarged viewer's expectations. Could be a very good ending as well.

The first part of the movie is full of intellectual beings (read antels). Too many characters are there, many of them just to stretch the movie to a little over 2 hrs! The real story doesn't even begin before 1.5 hrs. At that the story should have finished in 30 mins tops.
It's very slow paced. The story never really builds up. They tried to show a lot of things but touched only the surface with incoherent incidents strewn over. The writer Asimav Bose is a rip-off of 'Amitav Ghosh' and his book 'The Calcutta Chromosome' is christened as 'The Calcutta Chemical'
The only thing I liked about this movie was the interiors of the writer's house!
Give it a miss if you are sick of slow paced antel movies.

All that was a way of life for the Calcutta of the turbulent 70's, reincarnated in the modern day life with the "spoofiness" Anik Dutta is so characterized by, is all mixed in this delicious mix of mystery thriller. I guess, Anik gets carried away with his sense of pun to let you know and question the riddle. Extremely enjoyable for all us who grew up with in Calcutta to savor the various levels of meaning and flavor on a rain drenched day - specially with some banter fry.
A 2hrs:15 mins movie with 1hr:30mins of drama. Are you serious??

Very slow and very boring . Not even sure why this was categorized as a 'thriller '

I think its wrong strategy to promote this movie only as a thriller, as because u don't have much thrill in it.
This movie is not for all, but for those who still bear 70's NAXALGIA in their heart, had a chance to live that decade, felt Basanter Bojronirghos, or like me, who just heard the story of a generation of dreamers, their failed revolution and have seen the boulevard of their broken dreams!
"Tomra ekhono ki.....?"

If this was meant to be a thriller I must say I was not too thrilled. Well definitely better directed than most of what gets churned out from the Bengali movie industry, it failed to live up to my expectations. And if I add the general gleanings from the conversations while the crowd broke up after the screening, I would say it disappointed many. Because this was meant to be a thriller I will not spill the beans, but the script could have been much better. There are so many characters who were unnecessary and only added to the flab the script could have done without. The movie was just too long and felt long. The film did not have a proper closure. If the director planned to leave it to the audience to complete it for themselves, I must say that for me it was more of a failure than an intellectual twist. Talking of intellectual overtures, the film is overdone with them, so much that it starts to jar. The investigating cops, with the sidekick habitually mispronouncing English words, were too similar to a duo from another franchisee, and in my opinion was in bad taste. Acting ranged from rather good from Sabyasachi and Gargi to acceptable in Abir and many of the minor characters to wanting in others. Music by Debajyoti Mishra was mostly good. Meghnadbadh Rahashya is definitely worth a watch. But if you go in expecting something very good, I am afraid you might be disappointed.
Although the movie is set in modern times, the 70s era Naxalite movement is the central premise of the story, where Sabyasachi Chakraborty plays a former Naxalite, now an elite citizen of the society and an eminent author. While the movie does a good job in piquing the interest of the audience about the history of Naxal movement, it also makes some bold political commentary about the current political scene. The reference to Michael Madhusudan Dutta's most acclaimed work Meghnadbad Kabya was interesting, to say the least. However, a weak story with unnecessary subplots and more than a few loose ends left a lot to be desired. Yet, it is definitely worth a watch, thanks to the brilliant dialogue writing, in true Anik Dutta style, and, more importantly, the political commentary which makes the movie really stand out, elevating it above the realm of an ordinary thriller. I think it is a politically significant movie and a must watch for everybody. The movie is very fast paced which makes it difficult at times to grasp what is going on and, as I had said before, the unnecessary subplots add to the confusion. The ending may not be liked by all as it doesn't say what happened to the protagonist in the end but the observant viewer will realize that what happened to him isn't the main angle of the story - what is far more important is the political message the movie conveys and it does that well. A bit of political awareness and a basic knowledge of the Meghnadbad Kabya (a piece from which was there in the plus 2 syllabus of Bengal board) are recommended prerequisites for watching this movie. On a completely different note, I was surprised to see many of the dialogues in English. Some of the exchanges were fully in the queen's language while in some at least half of the lines were spoken in English.
Meghnadbodh Rohoshyo (2017)
Thriller
Meghnadbodh Rohoshyo (2017) is about a Professor of Oxford, who during his annual sojourn to home town receives a copy of the bengali classic from an anonymous source and wonders "whodunit, howdunit and most importantly whydonit"?
A beautifully twisted plot with wonderful concept and story telling that slowly peels the onion and makes way for the bulb. Meghnadbodh Kabyo isn't exactly what the Film is about however it's similar when we look at the characters of the film and that of the book. It's a story of betrayal. The film was good overall, however the only point of dissatisfaction is that the policemen were portrayed as extremely hopeless and on the other hand a woman(artistic in nature) and a film director turned out to be the actual detectives of this plot. And even though that seems amusing, it didn't quite make sense to me while I was watching the film. Overall a nice plot, good use of Bengali literature, great acting - a film worth watching!

A very much twisting subplot with wonderful cinematography and story telling that slowly peels the onion and makes way for the bulb. Meghnadbodh Kabyo has no such connection with the story (its a weapon) but the story of betrayal has been used as the USP. Certainly its a good watch and a delight to watch Sabyasachi Chakroborty, out of FeludA. There are so many good actors who do not get the privilege of their desired acting.
