INNS Awards

Each year, the International Neural Network Society presents several awards recognizing outstanding contributions in the field of neural networks. Any active member of INNS may nominate an individual for one or more awards. The nominee does not have to be a member of INNS.

Information on the nomination process is available at the INNS Award Nomination page.

Lifetime Contribution Awards

Lifetime Contribution Awards recognize outstanding individuals whose scientific life contributions to the field of neural networks have proven to be paradigm-changing and long-lasting. The program confers three awards recognizing achievements in different areas:

  • Donald O. Hebb Award. This award recognizes outstanding contributions to research in biological learning.
  • Hermann von Helmholtz Award. This award recognizes outstanding contributions to research in perception.
  • Dennis Gabor Award. This award recognizes outstanding contributions to engineering applications of neural networks.

Each of these awards is accompanied by a plaque and a check for $1,000.

Aharon Katzir Young Investigator Award

The Aharon Katzir Young Investigator Award is conferred on up to two exceptionally promising young investigators in the field of neural networks.

This award is accompanied by a plaque and a check for $500 for each awardee.

INNS Doctoral Dissertation Award

The Doctoral Dissertation Award is presented annually to the author(s) of the best doctoral dissertation(s) in neural networks, machine learning, and related fields by INNS members in recognition of his/her high-quality, excellent, and outstanding research work. INNS established the program to recognize and encourage doctoral candidates in computer science and engineering among its members.

The award is presented at the IJCNN Awards Banquet and is accompanied by a prize of $500 USD. Two runners-up will also be chosen; each runner-up will receive a price of $250 USD.

Ada Lovelace Meritorious Service Award
