Gaisman Park Community Center was awarded 3rd place for the ULI Memphis Tommy Pacello Awards. The award is given annually to recognize a local development project that demonstrates the built environment values + principles Tommy Pacello championed: small scale, low cost, high impact. The new Community Center at Gaisman Park is a revitalization of a beloved and sacred place of gathering and community for everyone in the Berclair Neighborhood to enjoy for years to come. We feel grateful to have been a part of this project alongside a fantastic, collaborative team. DT design studio Flintco, LLC

In the ever-evolving landscape of the Fitout & Construction industry, it's moments like these that remind me just how grateful I am to be a part of this vibrant community. Yesterday, I reached out for insights on a product, and that conversation turned into something so much richer than anticipated. It wasn't a transaction between rivals, but a genuine exchange of knowledge between colleagues. Though some might label us competitors, I believe we're all collaborators at heart, striving to uplift the sector collectively. A huge shout-out to ★ Darren Mifsud ★ at Infinity Furniture for the open dialogue and laughs about business & life. It's interactions like these that underscore the essence of a synergistic business ethos. When we transcend traditional competition and instead foster an ecosystem where sharing and support become the norm, we all succeed. That's the power of community over competition, and it's why I'm proud to be where I am today. #ConstructionIndustry #CommunityOverCompetition #Collaboration #Grateful

“How we plan communities and public space tends to isolate or bring people together.” I’ve always believed in this and that’s perhaps why much of my career has been focused on multi-family development, mixed income design and consciousness, and true community building. Let’s collaborate on your next development so that I can inject some of that friendly neighbour recipe into your community! . . #localerealestateinc #localerealestate #realestate #realestatedevelopment #realestatedeveloper #developer #housing #land #housingdevelopment #landdevelopment #realestateprofessional #consulting #engineering #salesadvisor #developmentmanagement #developmentconsulting #consultant #realestateconsultant #atlanticcanada #novascotia #newfoundland #architecturalengineering #consultingservices

Training folks to be better collaborators, facilitators, leaders and managers. Looking to connect with changemakers!
Municipal leaders, designers, planners, how are you preparing to create a “supportive physical framework” to strengthen “the personal and civic bonds essential to an authentic community.” Are you trained in leading engagement that delivers meaningful outcomes to the communities you serve? I'd love to demonstrate to you a methodology that delivers meaningful outcomes to help you plan and design community changes that will positively impact the lives in your community. Even more, I'd love to train you to lead this type of engagement yourself so that you and your team get the same benefit of connection and contribution as the community members do through this type of engagement. Let's connect. #community #communityengagement #publicparticipation #p2 #placemaking #playfulplacemaking #newurbanism #cnu #designers #planning #planningengineer

We prefer people and companies that take big swings. @centennialyards not only fits the bill, but goes beyond. 🍻 To those doing it bigger, better, bolder. 📷 by : " Centennial Yards | Downtown ATL on Instagram: "MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT — Many of you have been asking, “What’s next?”. Well, today, we want to tell you… If you’ve been to events at Mercedes Benz Stadium or State Farm Arena, you understand the challenge of finding exciting places within a couple blocks of those venues. The struggle is REAL (and even more frustrating for guests visiting our city). We believe Downtown Atlanta deserves better. So for the last two years, our team has been crafting a blueprint for the largest entertainment district in the southeast U.S. And we think you’re going to love it. Imagine singing karaoke with your girlfriends, then walking across the street for a Beyonce concert… Imagine watching a Hawks victory, then strolling across the road to a wine bar… Imagine bowling with your family and then walking over to an Atlanta United match… The possibilities are pretty exciting. This new phase will include 470,000 sq. ft. of entertainment, retail, and restaurant space, including a flagship hotel. We partnered with one of the best architecture firms in the world, Gensler, to create a stunning site plan that integrates beautifully with nearby transit (multiple MARTA stations, cycling lanes, and the new BRT line). The district will feature communal spaces & walkways, interwoven with greenery and pedestrian-focused design elements. It will also pay tribute to the site's rich railroad heritage. Of course, Centennial Yards is about more than just big events. This next phase will sit on 8 acres—just 15% of the total 50 acres we’re developing. That means Centennial Yards is where you’ll go for big events, AND it will be home to a thriving community of Atlantans who live there year-round. Our goal is to break ground on this new phase by summer. We’re excited about this big leap at @centennialyards and hope you’ll follow along (more fun announcements in the months ahead)!""

I had the pleasure of attending the “Towards a Neighbourhood Renaissance” event at the Urban Design Group this week. With so many great presentations on creating quality neighbourhoods it’s difficult to pick out the key take aways, but here goes: 1) We should be focussing on creating well designed neighbourhoods with community facilities, not just focusing on hitting housing targets. 2) As each setting is different, we should apply bespoke versions of the 20 minute neighbourhood to fit with each context and we should also consider interactions and community needs within 1, 5, 15, and 30 mins of the home. 3) The 3-30-300 nature access rule for a neighbourhood: See 3 trees from a home; aim for 30% tree canopy; and everyone to be within 300m of a green space. 4) The importance of temporary / meanwhile uses in sowing the seeds of a new community / neighbourhood. 5) Agents advice needs to be bolder and see beyond the “here and now” to what a place could be when advising on housing and mix of uses in new neighbourhoods. 6) The importance of well funded community hubs and how they can help (in particular) young and old with skills training and social events - in turn addressing loneliness, building confidence and improving overall well being in the community. 7) The need for clear development briefs, quality design guides and good procurement processes to ensure that local centres in new developments are delivered and demonstrate great place making. As someone who is actively involved in designing new neighbourhoods at Turley i found it to be a thoroughly enjoyable and thought provoking day. Thank you Urban Design Group.

#CivicArchitecture is an essential aspect of our social fabric. These buildings and spaces allow the public to feel welcomed, safe, and engaged. We approach Civic stewardship with a holistic design vision because our work can positively impact the communities served. MWA’s first civic revitalization project transformed the Greene Library in Oakland into the African American Museum & Library at Oakland. Our civic portfolio has evolved to include urban design - 9th Avenue Terminal at the Port of Oakland, California - and community wellness and empowerment - Youth Uprising in Oakland, California. We continue to pursue Civic projects with complex and diverse stakeholder needs because these opportunities inspire significant social change. Author: Building Inclusion, A Practical Guide to EDI in Architecture & Built Environment, pub Routledge *ORDER NOW!* | Global Award-winning strategist in org inclusion using CQ | Compassionate & honest agent of change
This is the loveliest video I've seen of me at work! Thanks so much Vlora and the Malmö in the making team! What I'm so pleased about is the summarised takeaways: - Humans are #biased by nature. We take in 11 million bits of information per second, but are aware of only 40 of these. That's why we take shortcuts. Without such sorting, we would not function as human beings. **If we don't all consciously work to #minimise the #impact of our bias, we will weave our preconceived notions into every part of our #environment.** - Being aware of your bias does not automatically mean that you have changed anything. To succeed, you need a #strategy. Incredible! Tack så mycket! The book isn't published yet - VERY SOON - but it is available for pre-order, landing in August, you can get it via www.buildinginclusion.info
Finn Williams, Tina Lindh, Stefana Hoti, FOJAB, Nasrin Manoh, Haydar Alward, Kayenna Kirchhoff Holst, Vlora Makolli
