The conflicting results in the literature behoove educators to continue researching the effects of ALS on student learning in various disciplines. The following study attempts to explore whether ALS classrooms have a significant effect on freshmen students’ writing proficiency. This document presents an interdisciplinary teaching experience based on Game-based Learning as an educational methodology complementary to the Flipped Classroom pedagogical approach in higher education. The tool used was the Space Race application integrated into the free Socrative software. A more active and meaningful learning has been promoted in the student with its implementation. Likewise, it has allowed the face-to-face classes to be energized, creating a relaxed atmosphere. The reflective and critical use of technological applications and mobile devices in the classroom has also been encouraged. The use of the Space Race has increased the participation of students in the classroom, their motivation and interest, collaborating in the development of skills and abilities. This tool has been very useful to obtain bidirectional teacher-student feedback in real time. As a result, a more cooperative, reflective and meaningful learning has been obtained. Full article

Current development of educational resources for an online learning context has shown important shortcomings in answering the emerging teaching requests. The main objective of this study was to design a new authoring tool that could meet the needs of the eLearning sector that have become evident in the last decade. Additionally, the purpose was to guarantee the fulfillment of the accessibility principles in education. In order to guarantee accessibility to the system it is imperative that the teaching resources are able to adapt to the specific needs of individuals as well as to different technological demands. Using a simulation approach, and with collaboration among peers, this paper is intended to improve the understanding of sampling distributions (SD) and the Central Limit Theorem (CLT) as the main concepts behind inferential statistics. By demonstrating with a hands-on approach how a simulated sampling distribution performs when the data used has different probability distributions, we expect to clarify the notion of the Central Limit Theorem, and the use of samples in the hypothesis testing process for populations. This paper will discuss an initial stage to create random samples from a given population (using Excel) with collaboration of the students, which has been tested in the classroom. Then, based on that experience, a second stage in which we created an online simulation, controlled by the professor, and in which the students will participate during class time using an electronic device connected to internet. Students will create simple random samples from a variety of probability distributions simulated online in a collaborative way. Once the samples are generated, the instructor will combine and summarize the resulting sample statistics using histograms and the results will be discussed with the students. The objective is to teach some of the central topics of introductory statistics, the Central Limit Theorem and sampling distributions with an interactive and engaging approach. Full article

The development of transversal ethical competences is one of the aspects on which the efforts of the teaching innovation group “Ethics of University Teaching Staff” are focused. In this sense, the studies that have been carried out to date focus their interest on the results achieved among the students, being limited those that have been developed on the teacher. In an attempt to deepen this line of research, we present this work on the analysis of the motivations and professional commitment of university professors. The analysis resulting from this report will allow us to have a first approach to this vision from a different point to the one we had previously addressed in other works. In this way we can complete other investigations about this same profile carried out previously with students. Full article

The present work is the result of a research carried out in the stage of High School education, in the area of Humanities and Social Sciences. The data show that, at this stage, in which High School students begin to decide on a study modality that allows them access to the university, there is a majority of students who decide on the Science modality, to the detriment of the others. As a response to this situation, we have designed a tool that allows teachers in this area and this stage to transmit, in a more effective way, the practical and useful dimension of social and humanistic knowledge: The Humanities and Social Sciences laboratory. This experience, which is better known in the university field, is hardly used in secondary education. We offer the design of what could be a practical-didactic experience for this area and for its curricular contents. Full article

One of the points of attention of didactics in recent times is the application of knowledge that comes from neuroscience. Knowing how the human brain works and how it learns is a valuable knowledge for the design of effective didactic strategies. The present work is the result of a simple application of some of basic principles of functioning of the human brain to the design of a didactic strategy in the area of Social Sciences, and more specifically, in the field of the Geography. This strategy has been applied in crossed groups with the same academic level, with the purpose of being able to compare learning results of the same contents with different methodologies. The preliminary results suggest that there is a greater use of the knowledge inculcated when it is applied a specific didactic pattern based on neuro-education. Despite the limitation of the small number of participants in the study, this is useful as a first experience in these innovative methodologies. Full article

Este trabajo expone las reflexiones en torno a una propuesta de intervención que pretende brindar herramientas a los profesionales de la orientación escolar en el desarrollo de su práctica, estuvo enmarcado dentro de la modalidad investigación-intervención y se adelantó en el marco de la maestría en intervención en sistemas humanos de la Universidad Central, se contó con la participación de tres estudiantes de primer grado, sus madres y docentes, el objetivo principal fue el de incorporar herramientas del enfoque narrativo (deconstrucción del relato y externalización del problema) en la práctica del orientador escolar. Para tal fin se propuso un diseño de intervención que respondiera a la necesidad de generar un cambio en la forma como se atendían a los estudiantes y sus familias desde el área de orientación escolar, el diseño se estructuro en cinco sesiones que buscaron generar contextos favorables que permitieran a los participantes examinar las narrativas relacionadas con discursos dominantes acerca de la idea de “problemática de comportamiento” y la influencia de estos en la manera como se relacionan con los demás miembros de la institución. El diseño contemplo tres dispositivos metodológicos como ejes trasversales del proceso: la creatividad, los encuentros narrativos conversacionales y el sentido de lo vivencial. Dentro de los resultados del trabajo se evidencio el establecimiento de nuevas formas de relación entre los participantes, identificación de transformaciones en la identidad del orientador escolar y pertinencia del diseño de intervención narrativo para el contexto académico. It is well known that the transition from education to employment is not an easy task. Unfortunately, a degree is not enough to find a qualified job. Universities have to respond to this demand taking into account the functions that are associated with their role in society, such as the development of successful internship programs, which adjust to the needs of the labor market. The complexity of this phenomenon justifies the increase of the research in this field. Despite the public discourse, previous empirical evidence is scant and unsystematic. In this context, the aim of this paper is to analyze the existing evidence published in highly qualified scientific journals in order to combine the existing knowledge and look for points in common and future lines of research. The results of this critical literature review are interesting for diverse stakeholders such as: (i) policy makers, who are keen to realize the knowledge economy vision by increasing the supply of graduates; (ii) employers, who are continuously revising the skills required by graduates; (iii) as well as graduates themselves, who require to be incorporated to the labor market fast and efficiency. Flipped classroom model (FCM) and educational videos have been applied in several subjects related to thermal engineering. Results have been evaluated by questionnaires, observation in the classroom and also number of videos visualization. In general, students evaluate positively the application of the new methodologies, although some suggestions for improvement have been obtained. In particular, the use of videos can reduce some of the difficulties of FCM related to previous preparation by students. Finally, students’ marks have been compared to number of videos watched, and a positive (although weak) trend has been seen. Full article

User footprint left in Virtual Learning Environments (VLE) can be used to monitor the learning process, to reduce dropout rates by identifying risk cases, to ensure and improve quality, and could be precursor of the, so persecuted, adaptive or personalized learning. All of this has opened a new field of research in education called Learning Analytics (LA). The objective of the present work is to apply LA methodology for analyzing the behavior of students with regards to Moodle activities and resources with the final aim of improving learning outcomes. The data collected from the Moodle platform are analyzed in spreadsheets, without help of any specific tool, and compared for the last three academic years. Specifically, results of general activity, visualization of educational videos, parameters related to solve different questionnaires and use of other learning resources are here presented and discussed. In this work we present a methodology of “learning by example” assisted by computers in the study of mathematics. We propose the use of mathematical computational packages to program applets aimed to solve mathematical problems. Each time the student runs the applet, a new random instance of the problem is generated, and he is guided, step by step to solve it. The student can repeat the process as many times as necessary until his knowledge is consolidated, by taking a more active role in the process after the first repetitions of several instances. The paper looks at an experience of use of ICT in a face-to-face ESP required course in the curriculum of the BA in Commerce and Marketing currently taught at the University of Oviedo, Spain. The main aims were (1) to update the contents and methods of the course so that they allowed for significant, collaborative and autonomous learning; (2) to substantially reduce the time devoted to preparing, grading and reviewing tests, as well as handling student complaints, and (3) to ensure uniformity of content and assessment across sections. The results show that aims (1) and (3) were fully met. As regards aim (2), even though ICT did reduce the time spent reviewing tests and handling complaints, the preparation of computer-assisted, on-site exams took longer than expected, mainly because strict security measures had to be implemented to prevent cheating and the permission to use the computer labs at the Faculty involved a considerable amount of paperwork. Whereas the literature on the use of ICT in education mainly focuses on student motivation and engagement, the experience bears out that ICT can be effectively used to combat student unhappiness by ensuring uniformity of content and assessment in multi-section courses. It also shows that many digital native students do not have strong digital skills. Full article

This study aimed to analyze and understand learners’ attitudes towards Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) approach in a foreign language context in higher education in Oman. In the literature review, learners’ attitudes play a strong role in determining the success of innovations in instructional practices (Savignon and Wang 2003). In addition to that, this study is considered as an evaluative study to explore teachers’ implication of CLT and the impact of this implication on students “communicative competence”, which is considered as an ultimate goal of communicative language teaching in a foreign langue context (FL). The importance of this study is due to its significance to come up with a clear understanding of Omani learners’ beliefs considering teaching and learning process. It also aims to specify the impact of CLT as an effective teaching approach in English as a foreign language (EFL) among higher education students and to specify any difficulties or challenges that might hinder CLT implementation in the Omani context. To achieve this, a quantitative study had been used to collect data from both teachers and learners. The participants of this study were 631 students (189 male and 391 female) who were enrolled in Intensive English language programs (IELP) in Foundation Institute (FI) in two Universities (210 students from public university and 421 students from private university) and those participants were from three different English proficiency levels (247 level 1, 155 level 2 and 229 level 3). The analysis revealed that students perceived classroom’s practice to be more oriented towards using strategic and grammatical competence and less towards sociolinguistic and intercultural competences. Additionally, Omani learners reported statistically significant correlation between CLT practice. The students’ gender, language proficiency and education context affected how students perceived classroom practice. Full article

Nowadays, multiple choice questions play an important role in the self-evaluation process. The present work undertakes the design of a computer tool—Excel® worksheet—that will allow the calculation of different parameters that are usually employed for the evaluation of tests: difficulty, discrimination index, consistency, etc. The designed tool is used to evaluate the goodness to fit of multiple-choice tests on a practical particular case: self-teaching by competencies on the academic field of Pharmaceutical Technology of the Pharmacy Degree at Complutense University of Madrid. The easy-access computer tool designed makes it possible to evaluate tests from the empirical evidence, with respect to the fulfilment of the desired psychometric requirements, aiming to be useful for the student self-learning. The broad integration of information and communication technologies (ICT) in students’ and teachers’ lives requires education professionals to think of new ways to provide teaching and learning opportunities. Public and institutional policies, non-governmental organizations and technological innovation companies demonstrate a clear intention to incorporate ICT in schools. This situation leads to new demands on teachers who need to reflect on how to offer teaching and learning provisions with ICT to maximise student-learning gains. This paper focuses on the implications of the new educational landscape to the training and support of Chilean pre-service and in-service teachers. Our work discusses the research literature that deals with the rise of “new” ICT pedagogies, the relationship between them and the notion of active student participation. We suggest that it is important to prepare teachers earlier in their teacher-training programme and during their professional development in the pedagogical use of technology. In particular, pre-service and in-service teachers should be provided with learning opportunities that help them to understand and practice the skills of pedagogic planning and the evaluation of the educative possibilities of ICT. In this work we present the development and preliminary evaluation of several problem-based video podcasts addressed to students of the subject “Coding and Cryptography”. Specifically, this experiment has been carried out with the students of both the Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and the Master’s degree of Mathematical Research and Modelling, Statistics and Computation, at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). Our results suggest that students found these complementary videos helpful for their learning process, indicating that this methodology could be appropriate for subjects treating complex concepts, such as those in the last years of degree or in master courses. There are two main reasons justifying failure. Firstly, it is very common to find students with difficulties for the spatial vision. Secondly, a variable percentage of students do not have any previous experience about the contents of this subject since it is a non-compulsory subject in secondary school. Cooperative learning is not easy to develop when we encounter large classes of approximately 70 students. This handicap is increased when the subject is taught in the first year and the first semester. This is the case of the subject of Chemistry 1 of the Degree in Agricultural Engineering, the student comes to the University without having worked in a group, with little knowledge of the subject and attending classes at random. To diminish these negative effects, the informal cooperative learning methodology has been used both in the classroom and through the Blackboard Learn platform. At the same time the student has self-evaluations on the Blackboard Learn platform, which must be done before going to class and before going to the laboratory. Summaring, in order to increase student participation and daily work, a series of methodologies that have been implemented throughout the academic courses are proposed: (1) in the classroom, participatory master class and informal cooperative learning, (2) in the laboratory, laboratory experiences, cooperative learning and (3) On the Blackboard platform, informal cooperative learning, self-evaluations and portfolios of laboratory experiences and self-evaluations of theoretical topics. The final purpose is flipped classroom, to work before, during and after the class. Full article

The experience was carried out with the students of the optional subject “Wine and Health”, taught in 4th year of Degree of Oenology. This Degree has a low number of students, due to that, in the first year of teaching (2013/14) only three students enrolled in the subject, so we considered it was necessary to do something “different” to motivate students to enroll in this subject. This was carried out by inviting them to do a literature review on some topics, such as the relationship between moderate wine intake and Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Cancer or Allergy. In addition, they had to make an audiovisual presentation and expose it in the Conference of Viticulture and Oenology that are celebrated in Almendralejo (Badajoz, Spain), every year at the beginning of May. In general, after five years it has been observed that this methodology has increased the interest of students for this subject, which is reflected in more students in class, more class attendance and great interest. In addition, they have developed transversal skills such as public speaking, which has provided them with security and will probably be useful when conducting job interviews. Full article

This research aims to study the role that the implementation of Total Quality Management (TQM) may have on organizational performance of Portuguese university and polytechnic higher education institutions, through a literature review that supports the presentation of a conceptual model proposed by the authors. This research is justified by the observation of a reality still relatively little studied at the level of higher education institutions, not only in Portugal but also in other countries, particularly about the perspective of their financial sustainability, in line with the growing relevance that quality has come to assume in these institutions. Regarding the methodology, a study of a qualitative nature is contemplated, although using quantitative techniques, being the data obtained through the application of a questionnaire elaborated by the authors to evaluate the different dimensions of the proposed conceptual model. In the treatment of quantitative data, a model of structural equations (SEM) will be used, to investigate the possible relations between the different dimensions incorporated in the model. The objective of this paper is to analyze the perception of future graduates in Business Administration and Management on the conceptualization, constitution and regulation of the work groups in the university classrooms. To achieve this objective, the Questionnaire for the Analysis of Cooperative Work in Higher Education (ACOES) will be used. The results show that the respondents consider that cooperative learning helps them to develop their social skills and is as an opportunity to get to know their peers. In addition, cooperative learning gives them the ability to reach agreements with different opinions and the ability to understand the ideas of other colleagues. Likewise, the main problem is the lack of coordination between the different subjects. Regarding the formation of the groups, the respondents prefer to form them by applying friendship criteria. Finally, the respondents consider that the groups should be permanents and formed by 4 or 5 members. Full article

The flipped classroom model has become very popular in the last five years. The benefits of adopting this methodology can be very attractive for those teachers willing to improve both the engagement of the students and their academic results. However, there are some risks that should be known before transforming a traditional class into a flipped one. In this paper a set of guidelines for applying the flipped model to project-based courses is provided. These recommendations are the result of the lessons learned in a pilot experience with a secondary school that may be useful for other teachers and scholars. Full article

The present investigation focuses on understanding the experiences of professional training and identities that face-to-face and virtual doctoral students construct in a training program as educational researchers in Mexico. The relationship between experiences and emerging identities as researchers, academics and learners has not been an important focus in research on doctoral students. Similarly, virtual doctoral programs are scarcely offered in Mexico and their impact on the trajectory of doctoral students has been barely documented. The present research is positioned in the qualitative-phenomenological approach and is based on the conceptual referents of the sociocultural approach to identity in practice. The research questions guiding the analysis were the following: (a) How do the face-to-face and online doctoral students experience their doctoral career? (b) What strengths, opportunities, difficulties and threats do they experience? and (c) What identities do you create in your doctoral career? Full article

This research is part of an inter-institutional project interested in analyzing the perceptions of students and teachers about the factors that affect academic failure. In this paper, academic failure is seen, form the sociocultural approach as a complex phenomenon in which different educational actors take place and are related to personal, social, economic and institutional factors. Socio-cultural studies have paid attention to the understanding of educational problems by pointing out as an important mediator the social and cultural context from which students come and the divergences between home/social and academic cultures that are played within the microsocial contexts of the schools and classrooms. Thus, in this work, academic failure is seen as the interplay between personal, social, economic and institutional factors that enable or not the student to integrate into the academic community, build a sense of belonging/commitment to it and perform with success in their university studies. Bees play a key role for humans, since crops pollination relies heavily on them. However, bees’ population is diminishing dramatically. Therefore, conservation actions are needed to protect them, including educational ones. Childhood Education is a crucial period to learn and strengthen values about nature and the environment. In fact, it is believed that early exposure to scientific explanations on natural phenomena and on different living species can lead children to value and respect more the environment. The aim of this paper is to study, through the analysis of drawings, whether young children establish the relationship between bees and plants, the basis of the pollination. 47 five and six-year-old-children took part in the study. Results showed that children begin to establish relationships between bees and plants in early childhood, which is a valuable starting point to work with them through educational programs on the role of bees in pollination and on the importance of bees’ conservation. The first one concerns their previous formation in music (school and High school as well as formal/unformal music education—conservatories and schools of music - included their perception about the acquisition of basic music skins. The second test ask them specifically about their perception of improve of those skills (music language, tuning, playing instruments, aural education, didactic of music and use of ICT) after their formation in Higher Education with Leemúsica/Readmusic methodology. The educational innovation project object of this communication focuses on the scale problems that arise in the projects of territorial planning carried out in architecture schools, but also in the loss of the scale concept related to thought and drawing. The project involved collaboration among the Schools of Architecture of Malaga, Palermo and Seville with the aim of carrying out a practical exercise among the students of two subjects that, working on different scales, addressed similar concepts. In particular, following an PBL methodology based on collaborative projects, the planning of the N-340 road in the city of Nerja (Málaga) was carried out. Firstly, the territorial scale is addressed in the subject of Urbanism IV at the School of Architecture of Malaga, proposing the continuity of its development at the scale of landscape design in another place and with other designers of the course of Landscape Laboratory at the School of Architecture of Palermo. Besides, having verified that the academic results have been -in general terms- more satisfactory, the project has allowed consolidating the academic relationship between the three schools, which has translated into the development of complementary training actions. Fifteen advanced architecture students took part in the teaching intervention designed to train them on how to control the employment conditions of construction workers, especially migrant ones. As the highest authority in the construction site, these future construction site directors are the ones who should take social responsibility inherent to their position. A novel Swiss teaching methodology was successfully implemented as it contributes towards the achievement of the learning goals as well as the participants’ behavioral changes. The overall mark of the course awarded by the participants was 9.73/10. The impact of this intervention transcended the classroom and prompted the development of training programs in the construction site and the integration of new contents to the curriculum of the construction site directors training course. Since the first decades of the twentieth century, Portugal has affirmed itself as an emigration country. This social, political, economic and demographic phenomenon has consequences, which have always been approached in a general way, neglecting the personal side and identity aspects that the displacement causes at an individual and family level. In long duration emigration, there is usually a paradoxical feeling of non-belonging/belonging to two spaces. On the one hand, already integrated in the new reality, the individual feels that to a certain extent they belong to the new space. However, in their identity memory, the culture and way of life of their nationality, region or place still exists. This dilemma of (non)belonging is relatively abstract to convey to students, when we work the demographic phenomenon. We used a recent film—The Golden Cage, released by the son of Portuguese emigrants—where this feeling of belonging is represented, under ‘the cover’ of a comedy. We showed the film to a group of Demography and Sociology students and had them explore this phenomenon. The results were extremely positive. Full article

Conceptions of Students about Creativity and Mathematical Creativity: Two Cases Studies in Vocational Education

Given the diversity of meanings nowadays, creativity and mathematical creativity are difficult to define. However, it is crucial to do so, whether in society, in education or in mathematics education. Creativity is not valued as an integral part of the classroom context of mathematics or in Teacher practice, possibly due to the constant changes of Portuguese curricular. In this sense, it is necessary to promote the development of creativity as an integral part of the pedagogical practice of each teacher. The teacher’s role is fundamental to allow students opportunities to use the didactical resources, such as the mathematical tasks. In the 21st century, creativity and mathematical creativity have become important in Portuguese curricula through the implementation of the Students Profile in the end of compulsory schooling. This profile appeals to the development of creativity regarding of values, competences and guiding Principles, in order to mobilize schools and society for a better education. It is desirable that a young person, after leaving compulsory schooling, becomes a citizen capable of thinking critically, autonomously and creatively. Thus, in order to look for creative teaching approaches and strategies for the mathematical contents, it was decided to question students on the alluded concepts. This research took place in the academic year 2017/2018, with 14 participants aged between 15 and 21 years old (mean ages M = 17.36 and DP = 1.82) of two classes from one group of Portuguese state schools. The methodology was qualitative and interpretative, using a multiple case study design, one in a 10th grade class and another in a 12th. In data processing related to the analysis of the written documents, content analysis was used, and examples that represent each category were presented. The results achieved indicated, for these participants, that conceptions of creativity and mathematical creativity were not divergent in the two cases. In fact, the participants associated creativity with the category of Create something new and different and mathematical creativity with the category of Innovation. Full article

During the 2017/2018 school year, in the Master’s Degree Program developed at the Campus of Ceuta, in the area of Educational Processes and Contexts, we applied the B-learning method, associated with other methods, such as cooperative, collaborative, interactive and by inquiry, through the Prado platform. The experience has been developed with a total of 72 students, who made a portfolio, assessing, among other aspects, the development of the subject. Full article

This project aimed to analyze the influence of a learning environment mediated by augmented reality, implemented to strengthen the creative capacity for six students belonging to a technical educational institution in 2016, through the principles of the Design Thinking methodology. The research had a qualitative approach with a descriptive tendency within the design of a single case study. The learning environment included a series of activities congruent with the pedagogical proposals for creativity. In the implementation sessions the students were sensitized about the use of augmented reality and the creative process. The results show the improvement of the creative abilities of the participants in 87% of the creativity percentile according to the Torrence Test. The augmented reality contributed to the students being motivated in the process of exploratory design and curiosity and teamwork were fostered with a common goal. Full article

The use of film within the context of the classroom may generate great interest from teachers and students. From the point of view of Geography and History classes, it can provide indications to analyse and understand spaces, times and societies reflected in the images. It can be used as an object to be explored in teaching-learning context, in several teaching levels. In this text it is intended to reflect, from a theoretical point of view, on the relation between movie and history, considering the film as an analysis object and investigation instrument, as well as builder of historic environments and landscapes. The main goal of this work is to present the method designed and put into practice by the Department of Mathematics at I.E.S Norba Caesarina for creating digital books (e-books) in EPUB 3 format, including videos and MathML. The natural way of generating the XHTML code for creating the EPUB 3 is to use LaTex for editing the final text, transforming it into XHTML. We also show how can reproduce in EPUB 3, external videos stored in YouTube; how generate SVG images from GeoGebra and implement questionnaires in EPUB 3 without JavaScript knowledge, preserving the accessibility associated with MathML equations. Wikis are often used to create collaborative websites that allow users to create and modify their content and structure in a simple and quick way; these characteristics make them an effective platform for collaborative writing on a given topic. This article illustrates the experience in the design of a wiki as an educational activity in a practical subject of the degree in Chemistry. This methodology has been used for the elaboration of a dictionary with the conceptual terms learned during the classes. The learning strategy has been constructive, even if the percentage of student participation has been scarce. Consequently, it is necessary to introduce modifications in the design of the activity in order to obtain more satisfactory results. Full article

Software tools are used to support the development of engineering projects in different fields, including the area of renewable energies (solar photovoltaic, thermal, wind, etc.). In the field of solar energy, there are commercial programs that allow sizing the installations and evaluating their performance. Some of the most representative are PVGIS, the Photovoltaic Geographical Information System, PVSYST, a tool designed by the Energy Group of the Institute of Environmental Sciences of the University of Genova, and Censol, developed by the Spanish Center for Solar Energy Studies. This paper describes different simulation tools developed at Alcalá University in order to teach photovoltaic energy engineering. A web application is compared to other tools, such as spreadsheets and applications in Matlab environment, developed by the authors. In all the cases, the tools are focused on learning project engineering. Full article

Interdisciplinary energy research has become inevitable in the context of perceived energy break-point after 2050. Power and energy crisis is a matter of life or death for industry and human race on earth. Oil and natural gas peaking alarms started ringing by the start of the 21st century. Available energy reserves are emptying at of thousands of barrels per second and time to discover new energy sources is being wasted to convince and advocate disciplinarians going for interdisciplinary research approach. We will have to invent new ways of supplying 30% of the global energy demand by 2030 and 60% by 2050. It is not possible without putting the emerging bio, nano, and info technologies together in power and energy research laboratories under interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary approaches. Electrical engineers badly need the supportive hand of energy scientists and technologists to overcome global power, energy, food, and water crises. Engineers and scientists often find it difficult to tolerate each other and usually end up with duplicate resources without any presentable output which requires motivation to develop teamwork spirit to succeed. This paper unveils the potential urgency for an interdisciplinary research approach concerning embedded energy research barriers and solutions in developing countries. Enhancing power and energy multidisciplinary research is a vital general formula that can be tailored to specific regional conditions to minimize the greenhorn blues to run local and global interdisciplinary research programs. Internet, mobile phones, computer games and electronic media are seriously affecting minor as well as younger children worldwide. This work describes the fundamental reasons for children protection in cyberspace and suggests critically essential recommendations to Pakistani Anti-Cyber Crime Law to take necessary initiatives to protect children in no man’s land—the cyberspace. The study investigated the utilization of instructional materials as tools for effective academic performance of students. Survey research method was used and the study sampled the total number of 100 respondents in five selected secondary schools. A questionnaire constructed by the researcher and re-structured by two experts was used for data collection. The reliability was confirmed with the use of split-half method with 0.63 alpha level of significance got. The questionnaire was stered to the respondents with the assistance of the school heads. The findings revealed inadequate use of instructional materials in most schools and majority of the teachers did not take cognisance of the importance derived from the use of instructional materials while teaching. Those that adopted the utilisation, did not use them appropriately. No wonder the high rate of students’ failure in external examinations. Based on the findings, the professional counsellors in the state should sensitize all heads of schools and teachers through seminars and workshops on the importance and good utilisation of instructional materials. Among other recommendations, the government should endeavour to release enough funds. Full article
