Safety, Risk and Employee Wellness

Working together for a safer Mount Royal

Safety, Risk and Employee Wellness upholds the University’s commitment to provide a safe work environment for the Mount Royal community: students, employees, visitors and contractors.

Our mission is to minimize risk levels, reduce hazards and improve well-being for our community. We ensure compliance with the University’s obligation under provincial Occupational Health and Safety legislation and further compliance with all legislation.

Safety, Risk and Employee Wellness oversees Environmental Health and Safety, Security, Risk Management and Employee Wellness. The department is developing contemporary safety protocols, growing Mount Royal’s ability to assess and react to trends relating to safety and wellness, building robust risk assessment and creating an institution-wide Enterprise risk platform.

A management team within Safety and Risk will assist with identifying, measuring, managing and communicating key health and safety matters related to major events/incidents, as well as providing a well-informed response to events, projects and emergencies.

In case of emergency

Notify people in the immediate area of the situation so they can evacuate, avoid the area or assist, as appropriate.

If the incident is life-threatening, call 9-1-1 (dial 9 first if calling from a campus landline), then notify Security Services at 403.440.5900 or by using one of the emergency phones on campus.

If the incident is non-life threatening, but you still need assistance (e.g. first-aid, security concern, chemical spill), notify Security Services at 403.440.5900.

Next, report the incident. If you work at Mount Royal or are a contractor, notify your direct supervisor. If you are a student or visitor to campus, Security will report the incident on your behalf.
