Eric Paslay
Eric Paslay is a platinum-selling singer/songwriter with a sound rooted in relatable and catchy Nashville-style contemporary country. After finding mainstream success in 2011 with "Barefoot Blue Jean Night," a song he co-penned for Jake Owen, Paslay struck gold on his own with his 2014 self-titled debut, which included the hits "Friday Night," "Song About a Girl," and "She Don't Love You." The following year he earned a Grammy nomination for his appearance (with Dierks Bentley) on Charles Kelley's "The Driver," and in 2017, he issued The Work Tapes EP. His sophomore long-player, Nice Guy, appeared in 2020, and in 2022, he co-penned Keith Urban's "Wild Hearts" and released Even If It Breaks Your Barefoot Friday Night, a collection of newly recorded versions of some of his biggest hits. In addition to his solo work, Paslay has written number-one hits for Rascal Flatts, Love and Theft, and the Eli Young Band.
Eric Paslay was born in 1983 in Abilene, Texas, growing up in Temple, Texas, where his grandfather and his grandfather's brothers had a local band called Arnold Schiller & the Moonlight Serenaders. Paslay was playing guitar by the time he was 15, and began writing songs at the same time, relocating to Nashville a couple of years after he graduated from high school to attend Middle Tennessee State University, where he studied everything related to the music business. He got an internship with Cal4 Entertainment during his senior year, which led to a song publishing deal, which in turn led to a recording contract with EMI Records Nashville in 2011, the same year a song Paslay had written, "Barefoot Blue Jean Night," became a number one country hit for Jake Owen. Paslay's debut single, "Never Really Wanted," also appeared in 2011, with a second single, "If the Fish Don't Bite," arriving a year later in 2012, followed by "Friday Night" in 2013. An eponymous debut album produced by Marshall Altman appeared early in 2014. The debut reached four on the Billboard country charts, supported by the hit singles "Friday Night" (which peaked at six), "Song About a Girl," and "She Don't Love You." The standalone singles "High Class" and "Angels in This Town" saw release in 2015 and 2016, respectively, with The Work Tapes EP appearing the following year.
Paslay parted ways with EMI in 2018 and independently issued his sophomore full-length effort, Nice Guy, in 2020. Two years later, he co-wrote the chart-topping "Wild Hearts" for Keith Urban and released the career-spanning Even If It Breaks Your Barefoot Friday Night, a compilation of re-imagined recordings of his biggest hits as a writer and artist.
