Peach Kelli Pop

While drumming for Ottawa, Canada pop punk trio White Wires in the early 2010s, Allie Hanlon began a side project for her songs. Taking the name of the band from a Redd Kross track, Peach Kelli Pop's tunes were short, sticky pop songs about made-up dances, summertime, and having fun in the cutest way possible. Hanlon played all the instruments herself, recording them in time-honored lo-fi fashion. She made a series of records for Burger, moved to Los Angeles when White Wires ended, and with a live band bringing her songs to life, became a fixture on stages around the world. With each album, Hanlon expanded the band's sound a little, even bringing in other musicians to help out, and by the time of her 2018 record Gentle Leader, Peach Kelli Pop had moved to Mint Records (once the home of the band's spiritual forebears Cub) and established themselves as a first-rate punk pop band. The self-titled first Peach Kelli Pop album was released in 2010, first by Going Gaga Records, and then by Infinity Cat and Burger. Taking time off from the White Wires, Hanlon gathered up some friends, formed a live band, and hit the road in 2011. After the release of the second White Wires album (II) in late 2011 and a round of touring with them, Hanlon got to work on her next album, and Peach Kelli Pop II was issued in late 2012 by Burger. The White Wires' last album, III, came out early in 2013, by which time Hanlon was living in Los Angeles and spending most of her time touring. Her next album featured outside musicians for the first time, including Katy Goodman of La Sera and Wyatt Blair, and was recorded by ex-Dios member Joel Jerome. Peach Kelli Pop III was issued by Burger in early 2015, by which time Hanlon was back on the road again with her live band of Alex Edgeworth on lead guitar, sisters Gina and Sophie Negrini on bass and keys, respectively, and drummer Mindee Jorgensen. This was the line up at the time the "Halloween Mask" single was issued on Lauren Records in 2016. There was a shift soon after with Edgeworth leaving, Sophie Negrini moving to guitar, and Shelly Schimek joining up to play drums. The next Peach Kelli Pop record, the Which Witch EP, was recorded in late 2017 by Hanlon herself in her old bedroom at her parents' house in Ottawa. Using old four track gear she had left behind when she moved to the States, the six brief tunes on the EP were a nod to her past recording style, but showed her growth as a songwriter. The record was released on Mint Records for Record Store Day in 2018. By the time it was released, Hanlon had already recorded the next Peach Kelli Pop album. With contributions from her bandmates, extra drumming from Andrew Bassett of Mean Jeans and co-production by Roland Cosio (Together Pangea, Fuzz,) Gentle Leader is the most diverse Peach Kelli Pop album to date. It was released by Mint in May of 2018, after which the band headed back out on tour.
