UPSAHL

With a style that bridges thoughtful adult alternative fare and playful pop, American singer and songwriter UPSAHL debuted her warm voice and articulate lyrics on self-releases as early as her mid-teens. She made her major-label debut with the EP Hindsight 20/20 in 2019, followed by 2020's Young Life Crisis. In 2022, she released the hit singles "Antsy" and "Into My Body," which appeared on her Sagittarius EP. "Good Girl Era (Side A)" arrived the following year. A native of Phoenix, Arizona, Taylor Upsahl is the daughter of Mike Upsahl, a veteran of touring bands including Surf Through Death, High Horse, and post-hardcore group Stereotyperider. Her grandmother and grandfather were both music teachers, and she started on piano and guitar at the age of five. Upsahl wrote her first songs as a sixth grader, and using her full name, she began self-releasing more acoustic-minded music at 14. Shortly after graduating from the Arizona School for the Arts, she released her first pop single, 2017's "Can You Hear Me Now," as UPSAHL. In 2018, following a move to Los Angeles, she participated in formal songwriting sessions through a deal with Universal Music Publishing Group. UPSAHL then became the first act signed to the revived Arista Records (Sony), which issued the Max Frost-produced "Kiss Me Now" and follow-up "The Other Team" before the end of the year. Led by the single "Drugs," UPSAHL's first EP, Hindsight 20/20, arrived in March 2019. It was accompanied by a tour in support of Frost. The following year marked the arrival of the EP Young Life Crisis, which featured the single "People I Don't Like." Along with the Dreamers and Big Boi collaboration "Palm Reader," UPSAHL issued a pair of solo singles, "STOP!" and "Douchebag," in the front half of 2021. She kicked off 2022 with a string of successful singles, including "Monica Lewinsky," "Into My Body," and "Antsy," the last two of which appeared on the EP Sagittarius. 2023 saw UPSAHL feature on a version of K-pop girl group Le Sserafim's "Eye, Psyche & the Bluebeard's Wife" and issue the singles "Good Girl Era (Side A)" and "Condoms (Side B)."
