100 gecs

Bombastic and lawless, 100 gecs is the stylistically eruptive project of producers Laura Les and Dylan Brady. The creative duo both incubated in St. Louis' experimental electronic scene, but they began collaborating remotely by trading tracks online to come up with the genre-defying hyperpop maelstrom of their 2019 album 1000 gecs. In 2021, the pair issued the single "mememe" ahead of the arrival of their next long-player, 10,000 Gecs. Les and Brady met in St. Louis in 2012 and started working on music together in 2015. By that time, Les was living in Chicago, and the duo completed the material that would make up their first release, a self-titled 2016 EP. The project blended a multitude of unrelated styles for a quick-shifting kind of monstrous, maxed-out pop. With Les in Chicago and Brady living in Los Angeles working as a producer for other artists, they sent project files back and forth via the Internet, eventually working up to the jumbled, aggressive songs of their 2019 album 1000 gecs. In early 2020, the group released a remix of their song "Ringtone" that featured appearances from Rico Nasty, Charli XCX, and Kero Kero Bonito. This remix was later included on 1000 Gecs and the Tree of Clues, a full-length album comprised of remixes by Injury Reserve, umru, Hannah Diamond, and many others. 1000 Gecs and the Tree of Clues was issued in July 2020. The following year saw the release of the ska- and arena rock-fueled single "mememe," the lead track from the duo's forthcoming full-length effort, 10,000 Gecs. "Doritos & Fritos" and the EP Snake Eyes followed in 2022, with 10,000 Gecs releasing in March 2023.
