Daniel Seavey

Daniel Seavey is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer with a sound rooted in rock and electronic-leaning alternative pop. A co-founder of multi-platinum-selling teen pop outfit Why Don't We, who earned widespread attention with 2018's chart-topping 8 Letters, Seavey embarked on a solo career in 2022 and released his debut EP, Dancing in the Dark, the following year. Born and raised north of Portland in Southern Washington, Seavey took to music at an early age, learning multiple instruments and honing his skills in the church band under his pastor father's tutelage. He discovered secular music in his teens and felt particularly drawn to the sounds of Mac Miller, Kendrick Lamar, and the Weeknd. In 2015 he auditioned for season 14 of American Idol. He didn't make the cut but met fellow contestant Jack Avery, who conscripted Seavey to join Why Don't We alongside Jonah Marais, Corbyn Besson, and Zach Herron. Melding pop harmonies with R&B and electronic influences, the band quickly became social media pop sensations, issuing a string of EPs followed by a 2018 full-length (8 Letters) that reached number nine on the Billboard 200. After returning to the Top Ten in 2021 with The Good Times and the Bad Ones, the group went on an indefinite hiatus, citing legal complications regarding management. Looking to jumpstart a solo career, Seavey spent 2022 in his home studio laying down tracks for what would become his debut, singing, producing, and playing every instrument himself. The first fruits of his labors, "Can We Pretend That We're Good," trafficked in distorted alt-rock and emotive indie pop elements. More singles followed, including "Runaway" and "I Tried," all of which appeared on his Atlantic Records-issued debut EP, Dancing in the Dark, in 2023.
