Donny Hathaway
Donny Hathaway (1945 -1979) was een Amerikaanse componist en soulzanger. In zijn jeugd zingt hij in een kerkkoor en op latere leeftijd begint hij zijn loopbaan als songwriter, producer en muzikant voor onder meer The Staple Singers, Aretha Franklin en Curtis Mayfield. In de jaren zeventig gaat Hathaway ook aan de slag als solo-artiest. In 1970 verschijnt zijn debuutalbum Everything Is Everything en in de daarop volgende jaren ontwikkelt hij zich tot een van de meest invloedrijke soul- en R&B-artiesten van Amerika. Aan zijn carrière komt een voortijdig einde als hij in 1979 dood op de stoep onder het raam van zijn kamer in een New Yorks hotel wordt gevonden.
