The Wombats

Zanger-gitarist Matthew ‘Murph’ Murphy en drummer Dan Haggis vormden the Wombats tijdens hun studie, in 2003. Ze trokken Tord Øverland-Knudsen aan als bassist. De bandnaam werd lukraak gekozen voor hun eerste optreden. In 2005 tekende de band bij het indie-label Kids en bracht drie singles uit, waarvan ‘Backfire at the Disco’ de Britse top 30 bereikte. Op dat moment waagde het trio de overstap naar het grotere 14th Floor Records en bracht de single ‘Let’s Dance to Joy Division’ uit. Dit werd hun doorbraak. Het debuutalbum A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation volgde kort daarop.
