Troy Tyler

Contemporary R&B singer and songwriter Troy Tyler, a native of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, got his start singing during childhood, first in church and then as a member of a kids' choir. Seemingly inspired by the less explicit corners of the Trey Songz and Chris Brown discographies, he released his first mixtape, Unknown, in 2016. A year later, he followed it with Cadillac Dreams. The independently released four-track EP was promoted with the single "90's R&B," a wistful ballad on which Tyler referenced numerous tracks -- by Montell Jordan, Usher, Soul for Real, Ginuwine, and SWV, among several others -- that were hits during the decade of his birth.
