La Maison Tellier

La Maison Tellier were founded in Normandie in 2004 by Helmut Tellier and Raoul Tellier (aka Yannick Marais and Sebastien Miel), who were quickly joined by numerous other musicians to form a wider false brotherhood whose name winks at Guy de Maupassant's short story La Maison Tellier. Using various types of traditional instruments (from banjo to Dobro), the band created a personal kind of folk-rock, sung in French as well as in English, showcasing many different musical influences (mainly American) but blending them into a very recognizable homogeneous blend. Their self-titled debut album, released in 2006, already contained most of their obsessions. The record featured an efficient reworked version of Rage Against the Machine's "Killing in the Name," which, alongside "La Chambre Rose" and with help from Radio Nova, earned them some attention. Their second album, Second Souffle, was released in 2007, featuring music in the same second-degree folk-rock vein as their first.
