Gia Ford

Sheffield-based singer/songwriter Gia Ford tells stories of outcasts and alienation through her character-based songwriting and twangy instrumentation. Her debut album, Transparent Things, landed on Chrysalis Records in September 2024. Born Molly McCormick in Sheffield, England, singer/songwriter Gia Ford hit the indie pop scene in the late 2010s, coining her stage name to match the Americana-like influences of her early material. Typically staying away from the directly personal, Ford's songwriting offered metaphorical self-representations and snapshots into the lives of her characters; her early work, like her 2019 debut single, "Turbo Dreams," hinged on a dreamy, Americana-inspired alt-pop sound. After closing out the year with "God, Cameras, Everyone" and "Poster Boy," Ford began experimenting with gloomier sonics in the 2020s, heard first on 2020's jagged "Sleeping in Your Garden." After signing to Chrysalis in 2023, she continued the rollout for her debut EP with the dusky "Alligator" before issuing the four-track Waiting for the Wind to Change in July 2024. Many of these EP tracks made it to her debut album, which was preceded by six singles including "Poolside," "Alligator," and "Falling in Love Again." The full LP, Transparent Things, arrived in September 2024. Named after the Vladimir Nabokov novel, the album was recorded with session musicians at Los Angeles' Sound City Studios.
