Gregor

Gregor is an indie pop solo artist from Melbourne, Australia who first began uploading his eccentric home-recorded pop songs to Bandcamp in the mid-2010s. He then self-released a handful of EPs and compilations before making his first grand statement with 2018's full-length Silver Drop. Expanding into more elaborate production, Gregor followed it up in 2020 with the vibrant and lovesick Destiny and explored the symbiotic relationship between joy and despair on 2024's wide-ranging Satanic Lullabies. Influenced by acts ranging from the Durutti Column and Arthur Russell to Björk and Frank Ocean, Gregor began releasing his music independently in early 2014, offering up an instrumental EP called Aneurysms, which largely consisted of lo-fi ambient guitar music. The more sprawling and ramshackle UW appeared in late 2015 and compiled a series of unfinished songs, fragments, and experimentations. The following year, Melbourne indie, Chapter Music, signed the young multi-instrumentalist and issued a 14-song cassette compilation of his various demos under the title Thoughts & Faults. Finally, in October 2018, Gregor issued his first proper full-length album, Silver Drop. A quirky mix of bedroom pop sensibilities and progressive, sometimes humorous songwriting, it collated the disparate styles he'd been building toward over the previous four years. Appearing in 2020, Destiny was similarly eclectic while boasting overall improved production values and a dreamier tone. Appearing in 2024, Satanic Lullabies saw Gregor deliver an expansive "bedroom odyssey" rooted in themes of innocence and anguish and brimming with meticulous pop craftsmanship.
