Marty Heddin
A honky tonk hero in the great Texas tradition, Marty Heddin is a country singer who has built a following in the Southwest for his straightforward but energetic take on traditionalist country. Heddin was born in Garland, Texas, a city not far from Dallas. His parents were avid country music fans, and he grew up listening to many of the classic artists of the genre. Choir singing gave him the experience and confidence to believe he had a shot at a career as an entertainer. In the early '90s, Heddin began playing clubs and dancehalls across the Lone Star State, and his strong tenor voice and likable stage persona attracted the attention of Mike Murphy, the man who ran the popular nightspot Cowboys Dallas. Murphy recruited Heddin to join the club's house band, and in time Heddin would become leader of the group, which regularly appeared at the Dallas location as well as the Cowboys dancehalls in San Antonio and Atlanta. As part of the Cowboys band, Heddin opened shows for many of the giants of country music, including George Jones, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, and Toby Keith. At most of his gigs, Heddin stuck to playing covers of other artists' hits, but after successful record producer Keith Stegall heard him perform, he was certain Heddin had the stuff to become a country star himself with original material. Stegall, whose previous clients included Alan Jackson, George Strait, Randy Travis, and Zac Brown, co-founded a label with Murphy and Heddin to launch Marty's recording career. In April 2016, they released a six-song EP titled Marty Heddin, which earned him airplay for the songs "Game Changer" and "Hammered."
