Devil Sold His Soul
London-based post-hardcore band Devil Sold His Soul take elements of ambient music to accentuate their emotional approach to songwriting. In their first decade together, they incorporated samples and electronic flourishes. By the time of their fourth album, 2021's Loss, they were utilizing dual vocalists.
Formed in 2004, featuring three former members of Mahumodo, namely Tom Harriman (drums), Jonny Renshaw (guitar), and Rick Chapple (guitar). They were joined by Ed Gibbs (vocals), Iain Trotter (bass), and Paul Kitney (samples). They were immediately signed to Nuclear Blast, going on to release their debut EP, Darkness Prevails, in 2005. In the lead-up to their debut, 2007's A Fragile Hope, Harriman was replaced on drums by Dave Robinson, who was then replaced by Alex Wood soon after the album was released. Their second full-length, 2010's Blessed & Cursed, saw the band go on tour in support of Architects. The following year, Trotter departed to pursue a career outside of music, replaced by former Rinoa guitarist Jozef Norocky. After the release of their third album, 2012's Empire of Light, the band changed vocalists, with Gibbs stepping aside for the Arusha Accord's Paul Green. They signed to independent metal label Basick for the release of their 2014 EP, Belong ǂ Betray, before going on a lengthy hiatus. In their downtime, Gibbs returned to the band as a joint vocalist and Paul Kitney departed the group. Their fourth full-length, Loss, appeared in 2021 on Nuclear Blast.
