Elliot James Mulhern

Singer, songwriter, instrumentalist, and producer Elliot James Mulhern is known for his atmospheric, indie electronic pop sound. Mulhern first garnered fame in the 2000s as the drummer for Hey Monday before launching his production and solo career. The founder of Blossöm Records, he has released a handful of shimmering, psychedelic albums, including 2016's Soft Osaka Dreams, 2019's Always Lately, and 2022's Insufferable. Born in 1989 in London, England, Mulhern grew up in a creative family, the son of interior designers. He started out playing drums in school before moving to the United States with his family at age 13 and settling in South Florida. It was there that he befriended singer Cassadee Pope, with whom he helped found the emo-rock band Hey Monday in 2007. He toured and recorded with the band for two years, appearing on 2008's Hold On Tight. After leaving Hey Monday, he joined Break Blossom, appearing on 2012's Last Night of Your Life. It was around this time that Mulhern began to focus more on his own projects, as well as studio work with other artists. In 2016, he launched his Los Angeles-based Blossöm Records, marking the label's debut with the EP Soft Dreams Osaka. Another EP, Favourite, arrived in 2017 and included collaborations with Texas Drew, Cobeshack, and James Stein. Production work followed with Jallal, including tracks like "Toss & Turn" and "Never Forgotten." In 2018, he released another solo single, "Fiend." That same year, he formed the group Extremely Bad Man with Julio Tavarez, Cobeshack, and Jeremy Michaels, releasing Love Is Pure. In 2019, Mulhern released his debut full-length album, Always Lately, which spawned the singles "Smooth" and "Filters." The album found him balancing his experimental indie rock style with a more dancey, electronic- and R&B-influenced sound. A year later, he delivered his sophomore album, Tiny Correspondence, Dangerous Ideas and Sensitive Affairs, which featured an even more atmospheric, psychedelic vibe. Showcased on the album was the single "DREAMLOVE" with Copeland's Aaron Marsh. In April 2022, he released Insufferable, his third full-length of lyrical, psych-infused pop.
