Sebastian Esquivel

Sebastian Esquivel is part a of a new generation of Mexican regional singer/songwriters who is set on renovating the genre's traditional sound and outlook. Born in Monterrey in 2000, Esquivel first made inroads as half of the duo Los Alucines, together with his brother Eugenio. The brothers gained a significant following in TikTok as influencers, which later helped launch their musical careers. Having previously posted several videos performing covers, Esquivel released his first official single, "A Cargo del Terreno," in March 2022. Almost 20 others followed over the next two years, including huge streaming hits in México and the U.S. such as "Bélico y Cholo" (with Yerai R) and "Alucin" with Eugenio Esquivel and Grupo Marca Registrada. Musically, he has shown a predilection for the corrido bélico style, similar to the corridos tumbados in that it also incorporates trap and urbano elements, but with lyrics concerning violent armed confrontations and instrumentation that relies heavily on the tololoche double bass and the charcheta (Mexican banda alto horn).
