Hugh Coltman

British singer born in Swindon, Wiltshire, on May 26, 1972, Hugh Coltman sang and played in the band The Hoax, before settling in Paris. After four albums with this blues-rock band, he joined Heez Bus, before embarking on a solo career in 2004. His 2008 album Stories from the Safe House brought him to the attention of French audiences, in a style that blends blues, soul and jazz. After the nostalgic reformation of The Hoax between 2008 and 2010, Hugh Coltman collaborated with singer Babet, then with jazz keyboardist Eric Legnini in his group The Afro Jazz Beat. In 2012, he returned to his solo career with the album Zero Killed, before reuniting with The Hoax for the third time for Big City Blues (2013). In 2015, he interprets the sentimental songs of one of the greatest crooners in jazz history in Shadows: Songs of Nat King Cole (2015). Winner of his first Victoire du jazz award in the vocal category, Hugh Coltman signed the album Who's Happy? for OKeh Records in 2018, in the same jazz register. Following his collaboration with blues and jazz guitarist Mathis Pascaud on the Dr. John tribute album Night Trippin' (2022), the singer wins another Victoire du jazz in 2023. He returns to the studio for the blues folk album Good Grief (2024).
