Miles Mosley

Bassist, composer, vocalist, and general jazz renaissance player Miles Mosley was born in Hollywood, California in 1980. Named after Miles Davis, jazz was a part of Mosley's life from the very beginning, and his younger days were spent honing his playing, studying under storied mentors to develop a style that had the fluidity of funk and rock playing with more technical mastery and depth of expression than a single style could hold. Mosley's multifaceted playing and composing quickly found him collaborating with an enormous cast of famous names, working with everyone from Joni Mitchell to Korn vocalist Jonathan Davis. Mosley is one of the founders of creative musicians' collective the West Coast Get Down and has collaborated at length with members of the group on their recordings, performances, and compositions, as well as those he leads. Although a detailed discography or list of collaborative projects would be exhaustive, Mosley issued multiple solo albums, including 2005's Sicacermony, 2006's Taming the Proud, and 2007's Bear. The 2010s found Mosley particularly busy, gaining international acclaim as a player on fellow West Coast Get Down member Kamasi Washington's critically adored 2015 album The Epic, as well as contributing to tracks on Kendrick Lamar's massively popular album from the same year, To Pimp a Butterfly. On the heels of this success, Mosley readied a new solo album, Uprising. Originally released in January 2017 on World Galaxy, it was picked up by Verve for wider distribution on multiple formats later in the year.
