Barbara Pravi

Barbara Pravi is a French pop singer, songwriter, and actress whose poetic update of the classic chanson tradition has won her acclaim as well as chart success. While building up a catalog of EPs, Pravi also wrote songs for other artists including "Bim Bam Toi," which earned her international attention when Carla Lazzari sang it at the 2019 Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Two years later, Pravi represented France at the main Eurovision contest where she became a breakout star, with "Voilà" earning a second place finish. Her debut album, On n'enferme pas les oiseaux, reached the French Top Ten later that year. Pravi's sophomore album, La Pieva, arrived in 2024. Born Barbara Piévic on April 10, 1993, the Parisian honored her Serbian grandfather when she took on the stage name Pravi; the Serbian word loosely translates to "real" or "authentic." As she began writing her first songs, her musical inspirations harkened back to an earlier generation of French artists like Jacques Brel, Barbara, and Françoise Hardy. She signed with Capitol Records and starred in several musical productions before releasing her first single, "Pas grandir," in 2017. After a self-titled 2018 EP, Pravi found more widespread recognition as a songwriter when her song "Bim Bam Toi" was chosen to represent France at the 2019 Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Sung by Carla Lazzari, it made a strong fifth place showing. Pravi also wrote songs for artists like Yannick Noah, Julie Zenatti, and Jaden Smith. In early 2021, she won the national Eurovision France contest with her song "Voilà" and went on to represent France in the international contest in the Netherlands. She was a strong contender and ultimately earned second place, France's highest Eurovision position in three decades. "Voilà" served as the leadoff song to Pravi's debut album, On n'enferme pas les oiseaux, which she released later that year. The album reached number six on the French charts and garnered critical acclaim. A year later another young French singer, Lissandro, sang Pravi's song "Oh maman!," at the 2022 Junior Eurovision contest and won first place. Pravi continued multiple pursuits over the next two years, performing, acting, and even writing a book. In early 2024, she began to ramp up for the release of her second album. La Pieva appeared in September of that year.
