Sadboi

Brash and high-spirited Toronto native SadBoi tailors her sound for dancefloors with a mix of garage, house, and several styles informed by her Caribbean heritage, including dancehall, lovers rock, baile funk, and reggaeton. During the late 2010s and into 2021, under the name Ebhoni, the vocalist and songwriter alternated from contemporary R&B and more pop-flavored material with occasional reflections of her upbringing. She changed aliases in 2022, a year in which she self-released a handful of singles and the six-track were all the ig girls worth it? EP. The independence anthem "Potential" highlighted her 2023 and reappeared on her first SadBoi project for LVRN Records, 2024's BARE CHAT. Raised in Toronto and suburban Oshawa, Ebhoni Jade Cato-O'Garro was singing, writing, and recording by the time she was a teenager. Known simply as Ebhoni, she made her commercial debut in 2018, and an assortment of singles and EPs over the next few years led to the ten-track project Good Dick & Weed, released on True Panther Sounds in 2021. The next year, inspired by her nickname for a former boyfriend, she took the name SadBoi. Although she didn't put R&B behind her, she gradually focused more on club music and lovers rock-informed ballads. She self-released were all the ig girls worth it? in 2022, and the same year landed a deal with LVRN Records (aka Love Renaissance) and launched with the single "U Dun Kno." SadBoi reached a much larger audience the next year with "Potential," which was among the mix of previously released and new tracks on the 2024 release BARE CHAT. SadBoi kept rolling throughout the year with additional singles such as "fashion week," "jane baby" (featuring Cash Cobain), and the DJ SAZE collaboration "rosa."
