Satica

Rising from the east side of Long Beach, California, Cambodian-American singer/songwriter Satica performs sleek pop infused with electronic textures and R&B/soul, influenced by Bon Iver, Lykke Li, Frank Ocean, and Panic! At the Disco. Born April Nhem to refugee parents who fled to the U.S. to escape the Khmer Rouge, she developed an early love of music, performing with hair brushes, recording home videos with her siblings, and singing Khmer karaoke with her family. She learned guitar and wrote poetry as an outlet for her adolescent emotions, composing her first song at the age of 15. Her first full-length, 2014's Sirenum, caught the attention of Far East Movement and Transparent Agency, who helped her kick-start her career. She worked with K-pop label S.M. Entertainment and was also featured on tracks with electronic artists Manila Killa ("Youth") and BLKNZ ("Cold Sweats") before focusing on her own solo work. The electronic influence from her collaborations seeped into her singles "I'm Done," "Dysfunctional" with Sakima, and "Honey Whiskey," a departure from Sirenum's tender, indie acoustic mood. "Dysfuntional" and "Honey Whiskey" appeared on her 2017 EP, Drippin' (Moving Castle), which was produced with AOBeats. She followed in 2018 with "Inner Child" and "miss yr high." The next year, she released her EP, dear april, ily, which included singles "Take a Walk" and "Check$."
