Bocafloja

Bocafloja, born Aldo Villegas on July 12, 1978, in Mexico City, is a renowned rapper, poet, and social activist who has reshaped the intersection of hip-hop and political discourse in Latin America. He began his career in the mid-1990s with the groups Lifestyle and Microphonk before transitioning to a solo career with his 2002 debut EP Lengua Insurrecta. His breakthrough album, Pienso Luego Existo (2003), set the tone for his socially conscious music, blending personal narratives with critiques of systemic oppression. Subsequent releases, including Jazzyturno (2004) and A Titulo Personal (2005), showcased his lyrical depth, with the hit single "Tiempo" cementing his status as one of Mexico’s most influential hip-hop voices. Bocafloja’s 2007 album El Manual de la Otredad received critical acclaim for its incisive commentary on colonialism and racism, earning him the Indie-O Award for Hip Hop Album of the Year. Moving to the U.S. in 2008, he released Existo: Matriz Preludio al Pienso (2009) and Patologías del Invisible Incómodo (2012), and Cumbé (2016), furthering his reputation as a global advocate for marginalized communities. A pioneer in fusing hip-hop with poetic activism, Bocafloja has also published literary works and collaborated with artists worldwide, continuing to inspire through his art and activism.
