CHUU

Also known as a TV personality in her native South Korea, former Loona member CHUU has charted as a solo artist with her warm contemporary pop. She had an acting role on the web drama Dating Class, hosted series including Insane Quiz Show, and appeared as a contestant on King of Mask Singer before making her official solo recording debut with "lullaby," a duet with B.I, in 2022. Her first EP, Howl, saw release in 2023. Hailing from Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, Kim Ji-woo's stage name, CHUU, was taken from saying her given name quickly. She broke into show business in late 2017, when she became the tenth member of 12-piece girl group Loona. They had their international breakthrough with the next year's [+ +] before matching its number two placement on Korea's album chart with the early-2020 follow-up, [#]. In the meantime, CHUU appeared as a regular in the web drama Dating Class and co-hosted the celebrity game show Insane Quiz Show. In early 2020, CHUU competed on TV's King of Mask Singer, and later that year Loona scored a Korean Top Five hit and went to the top of the Billboard Heatseekers chart with their third EP, [12:00]. She continued to appear on TV as an occasional panelist, spokesperson, and contestant as Loona kept their Top Five streak going with the EPs [&] (2021) and Flip That (2022). After missing some live appearances due to health reasons, CHUU was expelled from Loona in late 2022 following a series of contract disputes. Although she had already made some soundtrack appearances as a soloist, CHUU made her official solo debut with mid-2022's "lullaby," a duet with former iKON member B.I. A solo rendition of "ONE AND A HALF," a cover of the '90s hit by K-pop act Two Two, followed that September and was in turn followed by another cover, this time of Park Hye-kyung's "Confession," and a seasonal duet with george ("Dear My Winter") before the end of the year. CHUU presented her debut EP, Howl, in October 2023. It went to number three on Korea's album chart.
