Blond:ish

Blond:ish is the solo project of Vivie-Ann Bakos, a DJ and producer originally from Montreal, whose smooth, sunny, often vocal-driven tech-house tracks can be introspective, sentimental, and slightly trippy. Initially a collaborative duo between Bakos and DJ/producer the duo of Anstascia D'Elene Corniere, Blond:ish made their full-length debut with Welcome to the Present in 2015. Since going solo in 2019, Bakos has delivered tracks like "Waves" with Grace Tither, "Tra Tra" with Hugel and Nfasis, and "Sorry" with Madonna. The origin of Blond:ish goes back to 2007 when Bakos met Corniere at the Winter Music Conference in Miami. Soon after, they established a DJ night called Blond:ish at Montreal's Cherry Nightclub, and by 2008 were producing music under the name. Their career took off after they relocated to London in 2010; by 2012 they had released EPs on Kompakt and Get Physical Music, in addition to remixes for Pete Tong and Tomas Barfod. The year 2013 saw the release of further EPs for both labels, as well as remixes for Kate Simko and Maya Jane Coles. In 2014 Blond:ish mixed the second disc of Flying Ibiza, Vol. 1, the first of which was mixed by Audiofly. They also remixed Depeche Mode's "Should Be Higher" that year. The duo's debut full-length, Welcome to the Present, appeared on Kompakt in 2015; instead of being an album strictly composed of dancefloor cuts, it was a surprising detour into moody downtempo excursions, with several tracks echoing the Orb's most psychedelic moments. In 2019, Corniere left the project to pursue her own work, with Bakos continuing under the Blond:ish banner. More standalone releases followed, including the 2021 house-infused track "Waves" featuring Grace Tither, and 2022's "Tra Tra" with Hugel and Nfasis. In 2023, she delivered a reworking of Madonna's "Sorry" featuring pitched-down vocals from the pop icon.
