Drenge

Drenge's blend of punk blues and grunge-descended indie rock was established by English brothers Eoin and Rory Loveless while they were still in their mid-teens. They charted in the U.K. with their 2013 debut, reaching as high as number 14 on the albums chart with their second LP, 2015's Undertow. Hailing from the English village of Castleton, the Loveless brothers took the name Drenge from the Danish word for "boys" because they liked its sound. Establishing the group in the early 2010s with Eoin on lead guitar and vocals and Rory on drums, their raw, assertive sound was cultivated from the rural terrain and their desire to escape from it. Drawing upon related themes of boredom and rage, the duo released a series of singles on Infectious Records throughout 2013 to critical acclaim. The brothers soon found themselves in the headlines when British Labour MP Tom Watson name-checked them in his resignation letter from the Shadow Cabinet in July 2013. The pair embarked on an extensive tour schedule that year, with appearances at Glastonbury Festival and Latitude. Their self-titled debut album was released in August 2013 and spent a week at the number 42 spot in the U.K. Following their first headlining tour, the brothers relocated to Sheffield and recorded their second LP with bassist Ron Graham. Their American television debut came on the Late Show with David Letterman in January 2015. Drenge's second album, Undertow, arrived in April of that year, also via Infectious Records, and debuted at number 14 in the U.K. Subsequent tours in support of the album included Graham. The group returned in 2018 with the EP Autonomy, their third straight release with producer Ross Orton (Arctic Monkeys, the Fall).
