D-Aye

Alabama rapper D-Aye's skilled delivery and pop appeal took him from regional acclaim to a major-label record deal. He went from his Living Life Fast mixtape series to releasing music with Island Records, beginning with his trappy 2020 single "Hunnids." D-Aye was born Datony Anderson in Montgomery, Alabama. He grew up in a musical family and was writing his own raps and performing locally by the time he was in high school. By 2013, he'd begun releasing original music, with his Living Life Fast 1 mixtape appearing that year. It would be the first in what became a series, with additional volumes arriving over the next few years. By the time of 2016's Living Life Fast 4, D-Aye had established himself as a key player in Montgomery's independent rap circles and was collaborating with peers like Rubberband OG and Super Nard. Other mixtapes arrived frequently, with projects like 2016's Murkgomery's Finest and 2018's Hit Lit padding out the Living Life Fast series. D-Aye's prolific nature and prestigious status in his circles brought him to the attention of Universal Music Group subsidiary Island Records, which signed the rapper for a multi-album deal in late 2019. In 2020, he released his first song with his new label, the ominous club track "Hunnids."
