Gemellini
From the Italian for "little twins," the aptly named Gemellini serve up progressive house from their home in Sydney, Australia. The identical pair -- Andrea and Davide Sartori -- may have grown up listening to hip-hop and R&B, but once they discovered electronic music through a Ministry of Sound mix, they began spinning house records at local parties. Influenced by Swedish House Mafia, Erick Morillo, and Dirty South, Gemellini's explosive and energetic music places the focus on big bass and tribal percussion. One of their earliest releases, 2013's "This Love," featured Matthew Sartori on vocals. A split single with Moe Aly -- "In Love with a Stranger," once again with Matthew on vocals -- was released in 2013. "Fat Panda" b/w "Jump" followed the next year. As the duo's exposure grew, their tracks were picked up by a number of high-profile labels. The throbbing "Cavenda" was issued by Sosumi Records for its Future Stars EP, while Atlantic/Big Beat released the propulsive "Jack It Up" in 2016. At the end of the year, "Manga" arrived on Code Red's Gott & Blandat EP and "Isla" was included on Big Beat's Ignition: Amsterdam.
