Ycee

Combining hip-hop, trap, Afrobeats, Afro-house, hyphy, R&B, and alte, Nigerian rapper, singer, and songwriter Ycee (born Oludemilade Martin Alejo) burst onto the scene in 2015 with the hit single "Condo," which featured vocals by reggae-dancehall singer Patoranking and earned a pair of nominations at that year's Nigeria Entertainment Awards. He inked a contract with Sony the following year, but left the label in 2018. Ycee issued his debut full-length effort, Ycee vs. Zaheer, in November 2019. Born and raised in Lagos State, Alejo began his career in 2012 in the underground rap community, releasing the singles "Smile on Me," "Pass Me," and "Shots." He signed to Nigerian indie Tinny Entertainment, but took a short hiatus from music after being accepted at Lagos State University. Making a dramatic entrance back into the scene with the Patoranking-assisted single "Condo," Alejo capitalized on his new mainstream success and major-label signing with the release of his versatile debut EP, First Wave, which arrived in 2017 and included the hit singles "Juice (featuring Maleek Berry)" and "Link Up (featuring Reekado Banks)." Two years later, after leaving Sony, he put out his first full-length outing, Ycee vs. Zaheer.
