박혜진 park hye jin
Originally from South Korea, Hye Jin Park started writing and singing in 2015 while studying art history and ceramics at university. A determined jack-of-all-trades, she learned to mix two years later. She developed her musical palette by frequenting Seoul's underground clubs, a world initially too closed off to be able to prove herself behind the decks. However, her assiduity, perseverance and spontaneity were finally rewarded at Pistil where she landed her first residency.
It was during this period that Hye Jin began to take an interest in production and released her first EP, IF U WANT IT, in 2018. Well received by the critics, this trial landed her at Ninja Tune. Two years later she released How can I, a new EP which was crowned with success. A remix by Galcher Lustwerk of one of the tracks (Can you) and a collaboration with Nosaj Thing for the single Clouds followed the release of the EP.
A singer, rapper, DJ and producer all rolled into one, the Los Angeles-based Hye Jin Park delivered an eclectic and uninhibited first album in 2021 (Qobuzissime!), slaloming between hip-hop, downtempo, house and techno. Always displaying the utmost composure, Hye Jin Park throws numerous phrases around on this album, one of the most fitting being "I Believe in myself " (Me Trust Me), chanted at the top of her lungs, reminding us that for Hye Jin Park nothing is down to luck and signalling that she will remain determined, collected and true to herself for the next chapters of her journey. © Alexander Fay – September 2021/Qobuz
