Anna B Savage

The arty, subtly theatrical music of Anna B Savage frames the songwriter's staunchly aware, often introspective lyrics in off-balance chamber rock settings that complement her unusual, mannered vocal delivery. After her 2015 debut EP led to tours with fans like Father John Misty and Jenny Hval, she made her full-length debut in 2021 with the William Doyle-produced A Common Turn. Her second album, 2023's Mike Lindsay-produced in|FLUX, explored the complexities of humanity (love and loss, pain and pleasure, uncertainty) with an intimate, shape-shifting instrumental palette. The gentler, more affectionate You & i are Earth followed in 2025. A multi-instrumentalist born and raised in London, Anna B Savage recorded her first EP, titled EP, with indie singer/songwriter D.M. Stith producing. It was self-released on June 1, 2015. The EP's quietly visceral songs and Savage's distinctive alto came to the attention of Father John Misty and, later, Jenny Hval, both of whom soon included her on tours. That year, she also released the five-track Live at Café Oto, capturing a performance from June 14. She completed a master's in music in Dublin in 2020, and City Slang signed on to release her more adventurous debut album, January 2021's A Common Turn, which was produced by William Doyle (fka East India Youth). For her second album, Savage headed to the studio with producer Mike Lindsay (Tunng, LUMP) with a collection of unfinished songs. They relied on spontaneity and interplay to finish the tracks, with the songwriter adding instruments ranging from woodwinds to an electronic kalimba to the mix for February 2023's in|FLUX (City Slang). Full of lyrical complexity and contradiction, it looked into human nature. She contributed to Lindsay's album supershapes, vol. 1 in 2024. A tribute both to her adopted home of Ireland and her partner, Savage's more intimate and affectionate third album, You & i are Earth, arrived on City Slang in January 2025. It was recorded with producer John "Spud" Murphy (Black Midi, Goat Girl) and featured appearances by Lankum's Cormac MacDiarmada, Anna Mieke, and members of Crash Ensemble.
