ASTN
Los Angeles-based R&B singer/songwriter ASTN (pronounced Austin) is known for his hypnotic, deeply felt brand of soul-infused pop. Drawing upon a blend of '90s and 2000s influences, he first garnered fans with a series of EPs before nabbing viral fame with his 2021 cover of Billie Eilish's "Happier Than Ever." He has continued to develop his romantic, slow-jam style, releasing EPs like 2023's Where Do We Go from Here? and singles such as "The Makeup Song."
Born Austin Sanders, ASTN grew up in Panama City, Florida. His dad started him on the drums at age three, and by his teens, he had taught himself how to play piano and guitar. He eventually moved to Los Angeles, where he made his debut with the 2017 EP Tell Your Friends, featuring the song "Love No More." A second EP, Leave Me Before I Love You, followed in 2019.
In 2021, he returned with his third EP, It's Not That Serious. Also that year, he went viral with a cover of Billie Eilish's "Happier Than Ever" that brought him even wider attention. In the wake of this buzz, ASTN released his fourth EP, the slow jam-heavy You're Almost There, which included the dusky and romantic "Gradually." In 2023, he delivered the EP Where Do We Go from Here? Anchored by the yearning "How Soon," it found the singer exploring themes of heartbreak and longing following a breakup. More resonant slow jams followed in 2024, including "The Makeup Song" and "Soul, Body & Mind."
