Mitch Rossell
An amiable country singer with a sentimental streak at least a mile wide, Mitch Rossell veers toward the sweeter, melodic side of country music without ever quite going pop. All this was evident on his 2016 debut, Raised by the Radio, an album that was co-produced in part by Garth Brooks. The superstar would go on to record several of Rossell's songs, including the 2017 number one hit "Ask Me How I Know" and the Blake Shelton duet "Dive Bar," which helped pave the way for a series of singles in 2020 that helped put Rossell's gifts in sharp relief: the topical "2020" was a plea for empathy that underscored his faith, and he displayed a welcome sense of humor on "Seemed Like a Good Idea." Rossell reached a wider audience in 2023 once he was cast in the 18th season of America's Got Talent, gaining attention for his performance of his tear-jerking single "Son."
Hailing from East Tennessee, Mitch Rossell didn't begin playing music until his freshman year at Virginia Tech. He learned to play guitar and soon began writing songs. Transferring to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Rossell graduated with a Business Management degree, then moved to Nashville in 2010. After a few years, during which time he released digital singles and contributed music to independent films, he crossed the radar of Garth Brooks. Rossell sent Brooks an email in 2014 asking him to consider recording some of his songs. Garth didn't cut any of Mitch's tunes for 2014's Man Against Machine, but he did take the fledgling songwriter under his wing. He brought Rossell on tour and co-produced a portion of Raised by the Radio, the 2016 debut album by the singer. The following year, Brooks brought Rossell's "Ask Me How I Know" to number one country airplay; Mitch also signed with Wrensong Publishing in 2017.
Beginning with "God's Country," Rossell released a series of singles in 2019. "All I Need to See" performed very well on streaming services, leading to the swift subsequent release of "Run," "Ask Me How I Know," "Slow as I Could," and "2 Weeks." "American Dream," "Then Again," "Seemed Like a Good Idea," and "2020" all followed in 2020, with the latter turning into a viral online hit. That year, Rossell also collaborated with Brooks on a handful of songs for the star's album Fun. Rossell released singles at a steady pace throughout 2021 and 2022, including "When Things Ain't Goin' Right," "Highlight Reel," and "A Girl Does." Brooks continued to support Rossell, hiring the singer as his opening act on his 2022 stadium tour; when Rossell made his Grand Ole Opry debut, Brooks introduced him to the crowd.
Early in 2023, America's Got Talent cast Rossell to appear in its 18th season. He auditioned with his sentimental 2022 single "Son," earning a standing ovation for his performance. Just prior to the audition airing in July 2023, he released the single "Can't Wait."
