Kid Bookie

South London rapper Kid Bookie straddles the gap between grime and rock with his heady mix of anthemic, guitar-laden hip-hop. Starting out in the fertile British grime scene, Kid Bookie released his debut single "Evolution 2.0 the Temix" in 2014 before issuing a slew of tracks. In 2020, after a collaboration with Slipknot's Corey Taylor, Kid Bookie embraced metal and by 2024, he'd released the grime and metal full-length mash-up Songs for the Living//Songs for the Dead. Born and raised in South London, Kid Bookie had played guitar as a child but discovered hip-hop as a teen and loved it. He started to work with Dot Rotten and before long he'd become an integral part of the South London grime scene. His debut single, "Evolution 2.0 the Temix," was released in 2014 and featured guest spots from Lady Leshurr, Samantha Mumba, Crooked I, and Dot Rotten. The EP, Throw Away Music, followed that year and saw Bookie bringing elements of guitar into his sound; he also released his debut mixtape, Some Kind of Hate. Over the next few years, Bookie continued to drop material, including his sophomore tape, You'll Rate Me When I'm Dead and the EP Shake Up. 2019 saw him team up with Slipknot's Corey Taylor and release the track "Stuck in My Ways," with Kid Bookie returning the favor and appearing on Taylor's debut solo album CMFT. By this time, the metal sound had made its way into Kid Bookie’s work, and he embraced it more on his 2021 debut album, Cheaper Than Therapy. In 2022 he teamed up with Wheatus to re-create their massive '90s hit "Teenage Dirtbag," with the unlikely duo issuing "Bookie's Dirtbag" at the beginning of the year. Bookie returned to the studio to work on his sophomore album, fully embracing the metal and emo sound that had filtered into his music. At the beginning of 2024, the first fruits of his new sound appeared, with the tracks "Scars" and "Love Me When You're Angry" paving the way for his album. Songs For the Living//Songs For the Dead was issued in mid-2024.
