ナディア・アリ

Nadia Ali's alluring voice and yearning lyrics have made the singer/songwriter a longtime staple of dance clubs, though she also records more acoustic-based material as well. She initially earned fame as the singer of New York-based dance duo iiO, who scored a massive worldwide hit with 2001's "Rapture." She left iiO in order to pursue a solo career in 2005, and guested on tracks by producers like Armin van Buuren, Schiller, and Tocadisco before releasing the 2009 full-length Embers, a blend of electronic, rock, and Middle Eastern influences. She continued working solo and with artists like BT and Morgan Page, then launched the downtempo pop project HYLLS, releasing the album Once in 2019. Reigniting her love for house music, she's released tracks with artists like Frankey & Sandrino and CamelPhat during the 2020s. Born in Libya to Pakistani parents, Nadia Ali grew up in Queens, New York. She regards Madonna, Stevie Nicks, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Sade, and Bono as some of her primary musical influences. She began working at Versace's New York City headquarters when she was 17. A colleague introduced her to producer Markus Moser, with whom she formed iiO in 2001. "Rapture" was released that same year, and became a major club and radio hit, with a series of follow-up singles taking the group to 2005 and their debut album, Poetica. Ali officially left the group immediately after the album landed, although with plenty of unreleased material recorded, Moser would continue to release new iiO tracks featuring Ali's vocals, including the 2006 club hit "Is This Love?" Her solo career would officially launch in 2005 with an appearance on Armin van Buuren's album Shivers, while 2006 saw her working for John Creamer & Stephane K, recording the duet "Something to Lose" for the production duo along with singer Rosko. In 2008 she released the solo single "Crash and Burn," with "Love Story" following in 2009. Her debut album, Embers, also arrived in 2009, with the remix collection Queen of Clubs landing in three parts a year later. In 2012 she was featured on Starkillers' hit track "Keep It Coming," while 2013 saw her join Arty and BT on the single "Must Be the Love." A year later she returned to her career as a lead artist and released an acoustic version of the Police's "Roxanne." "All in My Head," with PANG!, appeared in 2015. After a two-year hiatus, Ali returned in 2017 with "Almost Home," a dance hit recorded with Sultan + Shepard and IRO which was nominated for a Juno Award. Ali launched her alternative pop project HYLLS by releasing one song per month in 2018, including a cover of the Cranberries' "Linger." The project culminated with the release of the full-length Once in 2019. Ali became inspired to make dance music again after attending several underground house events, and she released "3, 2, 1" with Michael Calfan in 2022. "I See You," with Frankey & Sandrino, appeared in 2023, and she released "Endlessly" with CamelPhat in 2024.
