Yaadcore

Jamaican DJ and selector Yaadcore was pivotal to the re-emergence of roots reggae, with his weekly Dubwise events ushering in a new breed of roots mixed with dancehall, dub, and hip-hop influences. As a natural progression, he eventually went into performing himself, releasing his debut album, Reggaeland, in early 2022. Born and raised in Jamaica, Yaadcore (aka Rory Cha) had grown up with music in his veins, with his father running a sound system on the island. Following in his father's footsteps, Yaadcore started to develop his own events, eventually culminating in Dubwise Jamaica. Also working as a radio presenter, he would champion a mix of classic roots reggae with dancehall and dub. With Dubwise spreading out from the Caribbean to the U.S., Europe, and Africa, the events brought in numerous international guests and became the breeding ground for a new mix of roots, hip-hop, dub, and dancehall. Yaadcore also found himself on the touring circuit as fellow reggae artist Protoje's personal DJ for his live shows. It would only be a matter of time before Yaadcore starting to record and produce himself, releasing his debut single, "No Fenke Fenke," in 2018. A handful of tracks followed that saw him moving further into a mix of conscious roots and dub. Yaadcore delivered his debut album, Reggaeland, in early 2022. It saw him collaborating with the likes of Richie Spice, Jah9, and the late Lee "Scratch" Perry.
