Ziúr

Ziúr is the experimental club project of Mika Risiko, a producer and DJ based in Berlin. Tracks on her initial releases such as 2017's U Feel Anything? typically contained harsh, explosive noises twisted into jagged rhythms, sounding aggressive and chaotic but controlled enough to be danceable. She moved towards more of a left-field pop sound with the colorful yet still forceful 2019 follow-up ATØ. Risiko previously played in the riot grrrl band Sissters, and her solo work maintains a similar punk spirit, but is more aligned with the 2010s deconstructed club styles of crews and labels like Janus Berlin and Halcyon Veil. In 2015, Risiko founded Boo Hoo, an all-inclusive club night emphasizing diverse booking lineups and a safe, welcoming atmosphere for its audience. Ziúr's debut EP, Taiga, was released digitally by Infinite Machine in 2016, and was quickly followed by Deeform, a 12" EP issued by Objects Limited, Lara Rix-Martin's label focusing on female-identifying and non-binary electronic musicians. She also remixed tracks by Peaches, Air Max '97, and SHALT, among others, and recorded mix sessions for Discwoman and Resident Advisor. U Feel Anything?, Ziúr's debut full-length, arrived in 2017 on Planet Mu in association with Objects Limited, and featured guest vocals from Aïsha Devi and Zhala. A 2019 mixtape titled Isn't No Place and All Places the Same Place preceded Ziúr's second Planet Mu full-length, ATØ, which heavily featured her own singing as well as guest vocalists Samantha Urbani and Ash B.
