DJ, producer, and singer Yūsuke Kawai – born in Kobe City , Hyogo Prefecture, Japan on November 26, 1990 – is better known by his stage name tofubeats. He began his career at the age of 14, producing music under the name DJ Newtown, and releasing tracks on several social media platforms. He began releasing music in 2008, eventually signing to an internet-based label, he released a series of digital singles including “Touch” (2011), “Keep On” (2011), and “Mercury” (2012). After the release the indie EP Future (2011) and album Lost Decade (2013), he signed to Warner Music Japan and released the mini album Don’t Stop the Music (2013). In 2014, tofubeats issued his debut major label full length, First Album, which received attention from critics and music fans alike, earning him several awards including an MTV Video Music Award nomination and a Grand Prix Award from the CD Shop Awards (2015). Tofubeats began remixing tracks and collaborating with other artists including Chisato Moritaka and imoutoid. Subsequent albums include Positive (2015), Fantasy Club (2017), Run (2018), and the TBEP (2020). In 2022, tofubeats issued the album Reflection featuring collaborations with Neibiss, UG Noodle, and Kotetsu Shoichiro.
