¥$

¥$ is the combination of rap superstars Kanye West (aka Ye, hence the ¥) and Ty Dolla $ign (hence the $). The two joined forces in 2023 and released their debut single, "Vultures." Their first album, Vultures 1, surfaced in February 2024, and Vultures 2 followed months later in August of the same year. Murmurings of West and Ty Dolla $ign collaborating on new music began sounding in the middle of 2023, as West was going through a particularly controversial period of his often tumultuous relationship with fame. A series of antisemitic comments from the rapper caused public backlash and led to the loss of some of his corporate sponsorships. Throughout the year, both artists hinted at different details about their upcoming joint work, planning and then canceling various listening events, and slating different release dates that would come and go. In November 2023, the first ¥$ single, "Vultures," was released, with one version of the song featuring a guest verse from Bump J and an extended version including additional material from Lil Durk. Eventually, a track listing was leaked, as was cover art and information about potential contributions to the album from names like Offset, Kid Cudi, James Blake, Playboi Carti, Bad Bunny, Nicki Minaj, and many others. On December 12, 2023, the duo held a live listening event for the album in Sunrise, Florida, called the Vultures Rave. The programming for the event included playing ten tracks from the still-unreleased record and live performances from Kodak Black, Lil Durk, Freddie Gibbs, and others. Vultures 1, the first release in a projected trilogy, appeared in February 2024, and quickly topped charts around the world. Though the two next installments of the series were originally planned for release at the rate of one in March and the next in April 2024, it wouldn't be until August of that year that Vultures 2 was finally made public. The album included guest performances from Lil Wayne, Young Thug, Lil Durk, Lil Baby, Playboi Carti, Don Toliver, and many others, and debuted at the number two slot on the Billboard 200 chart.
