Hardwell
Dutch superstar DJ and producer Hardwell is one of EDM's most successful figures, frequently headlining major festivals and ranking in top DJ polls. Initially known for producing electro-house tracks and remixes during the 2000s, he helped shape the EDM explosion of the early 2010s. Founding his own Revealed Recordings label, he released a Revealed compilation yearly from 2010 to 2020, while hosting the Hardwell On Air podcast and issuing his own pop-leaning solo full-length debut, United We Are, in 2015. Notable singles include 2012's gold-certified "Spaceman," platinum hits "Apollo" (2012) and "Young Again" (2014), and the Jason Derulo collaboration "Follow Me." He began incorporating hardstyle into his sound around 2016, and after a brief hiatus from touring, he switched to more sample-driven big room techno and future rave with 2022's Rebels Never Die. He continued in this direction with subsequent singles like 2024's "XTC" and the Armin van Buuren collaboration "Follow the Light."
Born Robbert van de Corput in Breda, he became Hardwell when he began DJ'ing at the age of 13. Watching the massive dance parties broadcast on MTV encouraged the teen to learn how to mix, and he soon became interested in remixing and working on his own productions. His remixing debut came in 2006 when his version of the Underdog Project's "Summer Jam" hit the clubs, and 2007 found him remixing the stadium techno act Scooter ("Lass Uns Tanzen") and collaborating with fellow DJ Greatski on the track "Never Knew Love." Two years later, his bootleg mash-up "Show Me Be" would pit Steve Angello against Laidback Luke for a dancefloor hit, while 2010 saw Hardwell drop the first volume of his mix series Revealed.
In 2011, he collaborated with Tiësto on the single "Zero 76," which, when combined with remix work for Dada Life ("Fight Club Is Closed [It's Time for Rock'n'Roll]"), Avicii ("Levels"), and Taio Cruz ("Hangover"), added up to his breakout year. In 2012, Hardwell would crack the Top Ten of DJ Mag's Top 100 DJ list and top Billboard's dance chart with remixes of Rihanna ("Where Have You Been") and the Wanted ("Chasing the Sun"). His single "Three Triangles (Losing My Religion)" arrived in 2013 along with a fourth volume of Revealed.
Hardwell's full-length debut album, United We Are, was released in early 2015, with an album of remix versions by DallasK, Vicetone, Bingo Players, and Pep & Rash, among others, following later in the same year. The seventh installment of the Revealed series was issued in 2016. That same year, collaborations with Blasterjaxx, Jay Sean, Afrojack, and Craig David appeared, as well as remixes for the Chainsmokers and Jewelz & Sparks. In 2017, he released the single "Creatures of the Night" with pop singer Austin Mahone as well as the eighth installment of Revealed. The following year saw a deluge of material including the EP Hardwell & Friends, Vol. 3 and collaborations with Steve Aoki, Maddix, and Wildstylez. The full-length Revealed, Vol. 9. Revealed, Vol. 10 arrived in 2019 and included the promotional track "I'm Not Sorry" with Mike Williams.
After a quiet 2020, during which time touring had ceased and he released The Story of Hardwell, he teamed with Blasterjaxx as Jaxxwell for the release of the 2021 single "Bootshaus ID." He made a triumphant return to the stage in 2022 at Ultra Miami, closing the festival and releasing singles "Broken Mirror" and "Into the Unknown." The full-length Rebels Never Die arrived in September, focusing on rave-inspired big room techno rather than anthemic, vocal-driven electro-house. 2023 brought the Six Doors series of collaborations, which included singles with VINNE, Will Sparks, Maddix, and many others. He additionally remixed David Guetta's version of Benny Benassi's "Satisfaction" and "Miracle" by Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding. A tulip was named after Hardwell on National Tulip Day in 2024. Throughout the year, he continued releasing rave-inspired singles like "Oldskool Sound" and "XTC," in addition to collaborations with Bassjackers ("Energy"), Blasterjaxx and Maddix ("16"), Armin van Buuren ("Follow the Light"), and others.
