Yena

Debuting as the main rapper of girl group Iz*One, South Korean vocalist and performer YENA built chart-topping success within her home country through the group's dominant 2010s and 2020s run. Following Iz*One's disbandment in 2021, she began releasing strong material as a soloist, debuting with the number two-charting mini-album Smiley. Born and raised in Gil-Dong, Gangdong, musician and actress Choi Ye-na began training under Polaris during her teens, then signed with Yuehua Entertainment under the mononym YENA (예나). Excelling on the Mnet survival show Produce 48, YENA was selected as one of the final 12 contestants to form girl group Iz*One. A versatile talent, the young star became not only the group's main rapper but also one of its lead vocalists and lead dancers. Helmed by the potent lead single "La Vie en Rose," the group's debut EP, Color*Iz, set the tone for their success to come. The project landed at number two on Korea's Albums Chart and number one on Japan's Albums Chart, and was certified platinum in Korea by the KMCA. Though short-lived, Iz*One's flame burned brightly through the late 2010s and early 2020s. As part of the group, YENA topped the Korean charts for the first time on their sophomore mini-album, Heart*Iz, in early 2019. The following year, Iz*One debuted albums in Korean and Japanese; their debut Korean album, Bloom*Iz, landed at number two on the Korean charts with a domestic platinum certification, and Japanese-language Twelve topped the Japanese charts later that year. Two further 2020 mini-albums, Oneiric Diary and One-reeler/Act IV, landed at number two and number one on the Korean charts, respectively, with "Panorama," "Secret Story of the Swan," and "Fiesta" continuing the group's track record of hit-making. At the expiration of their contracts in April 2021, they disbanded to focus on their individual careers. At the end of Iz*One's run, YENA announced that she would be promoting as a soloist under Yuehua, with her debut mini-album, Smiley, arriving in January 2022. A resounding success, the uptempo, anthem-led project debuted at number two on the Korean charts, with lead single "Smiley" charting at number eight domestically and earning the singer her first music-show win on M Countdown. August's sophomore mini-album Smartphone peaked at number three and was quickly followed by the single albums Love War and Hate XX in the early stages of 2023. In January 2024, YENA issued her third mini-album, Good Morning, which landed at number two on the Korean charts.
