Billy Lockett

British singer/songwriter Billy Lockett has created an arc of work that showcases his flawless piano playing and emotive vocals, establishing a raft of soulful, poignant music from 2012's self-released eponymous effort to 2023's Abington Grove. Born and raised in the English city of Northampton, Lockett started playing piano at eight, eventually going on to play classical piano throughout his school days, along with a mix of pop and rock. By age 16, he'd started his first band and was writing his own material. Inspired as much by Radiohead as Massive Attack, Lockett debuted in 2012 with his self-released eponymous EP. A deal with Selfish Records followed and a handful of releases appeared in 2013. With national radio play and a few U.K. tours under his belt, Lockett continued to build his fan base, issuing a slew of tracks before inking a deal with EastWest. After debuting for the label in 2018 with "Empty House," the next few years would see him steadily create a back catalog of material, with releases such as 2019's Reset showcasing his own soulful take on indie pop. At the beginning of 2021, Lockett returned with Reflections, a seven-track EP demonstrating his skill at producing emotive and rousing pop songs. In 2023, he released his first full-length effort, the therapeutic Abington Grove. Written and recorded in his family home in Northampton after his father's death, the emotive 12-song set chronicled his childhood experiences there.
